Hey everyone,

Doing some work on my 92 f250 and I had to cut my way through a decent amount of hardware since this truck has lived outside in Minnesota it's whole life. Anyways, I'm now in the market for new front and rear gas tank bolts, and bolts for the center support of the driveshaft.

I also need torque specifications for the following:
  • Rear leaf spring hangers; these were riveted from the factory
  • Rear leaf spring shackles
  • Rear leaf spring bolts
  • Rear u-bolts
  • Center support bolts
  • U-joint strap bolts for rearmost u-joint
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Google torque chart, grade 5 listing is about all any of those are. I always say stop 1/2 turn before they twist off, just jesting. LOL

You will want to install grade 8 hardware for just about everything suspension related. I believe I used 9/16" U bolts for leaf spring stacks which were listed to torque to ~220ft/lbs, although that was on a 4x4 so maybe the specs are different? I dont know why they would be though.

For the bolts to replace the riveted brackets, I used 1/2-13 grade 8, torqued to around 120 ftlbs. Cant really go too high in that application since you are sandwiching two heavy plates of steel together (as long as you dont exceed the spec for a 1/2-13 bolt that is). Make sure you use grade 8 cadmium plated washers as well and put something on the threads to keep them from rusting. I sealed everything in with roofing tar before bolting it all up to ensure no rust forms on the frame or behind the brackets.
