Going up the hill will load the block. And that will actually be more efficient for the motor (benefit of diesel engine). Rather get the block warm and drive with light load and step on the throttle. If it blows alot of white smoke at fast rpm, it may be a small issue. But even though compression is low, it is still present, so maybe a little wear, but doesn't sound broke. A good simple green bath and keeping a lookout for other leaks. What oil are you using?

I was using rotella 1540 that's my favorite oil but since it's been using so much I've going to tractor supply 1540 they're traveler brand I think it's $8 a gallon.
where do I find some information about a simple green bath are you talkin about just cleaning the block up good so you notice any leaks?
Have you ever heard of these injectors leaking oil into the fuel internally?

What I meant by simple green bath is just spray some degreaser and give it a light scrub with a toilet brush then spray it off. And no, I haven't heard of oil leaking into the injectors. The compression is so high that the fuel air mix ignites under pressure. The top ring are also partially lubed by the diesel itself. I have heard that 7.3 burn alot of rotella, I ran it alot and never had that bad an issue, but I also add Lucas everyone in a while. Usually about 1full rear tank before oil change. What you were describing is insane. 1 gall per 100mi. That's like all your oil burned up in 1 tank of fuel.

Yes it is absolutely insane and I do have to think that I must have had that oil leak longer than I thought it must just stop dripping almost instantly after I shut the engine off which is possible. I have the truck apart got the turbo out deleting that stuff.
I am going to replace the injectors with some used ones that I know weren't leaking course I will change the o-rings.
Most people I talk to about these injectors leaking say they've never heard of one leaking internally, but I have a local rebuild shop the tell me it's not likely but possible so while I've got it down I'll make the swap and find out.
Hope somebody can help me figure out how to plug hole if I remove the actuator solenoid.
You mentioned using Lucas is that oil treatment or fuel?

Yes it is definitely a bad oil leak but this is my 94.5 that gets a hundred miles to the gallon on oil. Yeah that's no joke. I have been working within 8 Miles of my shop all summer.
I am expecting that my oil consumption is through my injectors I have changed the external o-rings and I'm sure it's not getting past them it is internal.
So I'm going to swap the ones out of my donor truck and see what difference that makes.
Another place I see oil is on the turbo compressor side
see the picture
I don't know if that is a concern or not possibly a seal in the turbo the shaft is good and solid

injector o-rings would put oil into the fuel and burn it at the rate you speak of. Does your fuel bowl have oil in it?

Yes fuel has oil in it and I have been through the o rings twice and this time I change the injectors so we'll see what it does now.
It is interesting that the first time I pulled the old injectors out the o-rings look good I change them and it still let oil past. The second time I pulled them out and just inspected. I have never seen any sign of a bad o-ring rather it was just worn flat or scared nothing. But still there is plenty of oil in the fuel. Also I have the cups clean and can see no damage to them, a double check for the copper crush ring someone may have left in the bottom.
So I've asked everyone I've talked to on here about oil leaking past internally through the injectors.
I had a local shop that rebuilds these injectors tell me that is not likely that they would leak internally, but that it is possible.
so now I have a set of injectors in there that I know did not leak.
I will check the fuel tomorrow I have burned about a half a tank.

Check out the seven o rings or the extra o-ring, maybe stock?

The single pink is "factory."

So would it be safe to say the injectors that I took out of the donor truck with 300,000 miles on them that have the extra ring have been either replaced or had an aftermarket set of gaskets put on them?

The set up on the injectors looks like a napa set ic had pretty good luck withe them but I always use a lube when putting them back in and set fully before torqueing them down iv seen people hit the max torque before the injector is fully set and that can cause issues

There is no longer oil getting into the fuel since I changed the injectors so I am concluding that the oil was getting past internal
That is through the injectors.
Because as I stated before I have change the o-rings pulled out and checked the o rings.and I was still getting a massive amount of oil in the fuel. You can see in the photo the difference in the fuel before and after.
