I thought mention elsewhere here of NOT using a real cutting tap, or at least just hand pressure on it, to prevent shaving any metal off block threads. Solvent and softer tap would seem ideal. Am still trying to find alternate bolts for one at a time replacement (head on).
I use a cutting tap and have never gotten any metal from the block. Slow, steady, and lots of back and forth does the trick. Also gotten rusty threads where the only way to work through them was with a cutting tap. Any material that gets removed is just rusty sludge.

Cutting through fresh metal always has the slow resistence feel to it.

Used the wd40 headbolt method a few times too. Zip the bolt back and forth with Wd40, hit it with brake clean and air and you're good.

Never had any issues.
