Holy hell talk about rust I wouldn't touch if a customer brought it to me

"Customer" didn't, it was side work for the shop near my house. That's the wrecker he uses in the winter to keep his nice truck nice.

I always laugh when people freak out about the level of rust we deal with. Someday I want to move south and work on all the trucks they think are rusty down there, it'd be a walk in the park after the crap people daily drive up here!

I was VERY surprised that the fittings actually came apart. The hoses were rusted to the fittings, so they had to be cut off so the fitting would turn, but the fittings came loose which is awesome. I've dealt with stuff like that just rounding itself over. That's "fun".

That is a surprisingly small amount of threads needed for those fittings.

Picture doesn't show it well but there's more there than it looks. The problem is the rust wick'd down the threads a little bit so the contrast of the shiny threads is all that really shows.

I helped a neighbor cut some fire wood today. We went to a friend's house in the country and filled the bed on his "08 Chevy 1/2 ton and filled my trailer about half way up. Then we came back to town to eat lunch and cut down a tree in my back yard that was mostly dead. Since it had to fall only one way, we decided to hook chains to it to guide it in the right direction. I didn't have enough chain so I went a couple of blocks over to my boss's house and borrowed a third one from him. He came over to help. Good thing that he did becaue he went back home and got his Stihl 065 with a 25" bar. That took a lot less work than it would have been with my Stihl MS251 with a 18" bar. After cutting the tree down, he left to go cut some fire wood of his own. The bottom 6' or so of my tree was so big that we didn't even mess with it. I'm going to get a hold of another guy with a skid steer and let him come get it and burn it in his stove. The tree may not be very big compared to some that grow back east, but I live in Kansas.

Stuff like this reminds me of a Calvin story....

When his sister moved from Michigan to Kali, they had their vehicles transported out there. They brought their "good" cars, and their two "winter" cars. When the driver got to his shop with the winter cars, he told the driver to not unload them, he just needed to take those rusty pieces of s**t to the wrecking yard down the street......

Put on some $30 Chinese fleabay rear views, not crazy about them they look kinda cheesy but good enough until I get the rusty pitted originals restored.

I loved these mirrors and would NOT even consider changing them. I towed with them and they worked very nicely. I did have to add a flat 3 inch 1/8 inch bar to extend them when I was towing something that was wide.

I love the style of them. The factory ones are a lot beefier and put the mirrors higher and farther out than these tin and plastic cheapos. The brackets are all rusted up tho, gonna sand em and have them re-chromed at some point when I stop throwing money at stuff it actually needs.

Mine did the same thing. Sanded them down, then applied a "chrome" powder coat and baked them. Looks good and has held up for 5 years now.

Mine never rusted. I had a 1982 F-350 and pulled my Jeep all over Calif and other places. Rust is not a big deal here.

Well after driving it a couple times and seeing how mechanically solid it is I couldn't let it slip through my hands. I worked out a deal with Rich and Diego is going to be my new Daily!

Friday I got the wiring pigtail and today I carefully trimmed the stock surround and fit a radio in. I only have drivers side speakers so I don't know if I screwed up the wiring or if the issue is in the door wiring. Maybe it's related to the passenger window not working?

Anyway I'm excited! Needs a couple small things but nothing major.
