Hiya Gang! I know that this fits better in the "general & accessories" sub forum but I know you guys and lots of traffic here. Mods, if you feel the need to move it...
Anyways, I'm going to install a stereo in Raylan before we head south. I've got a JVC kdr 330 and some high end non component speakers in the Jeep - no complaints. For what I've got into it, it's awesome. The cheap JVC head unit puts out 50x4 (I know about true vs advertised watts) so it drives the speakers pretty well and the front and rear aux inputs are useful as well.
Questions about what speakers will fit into the stock locations on my '94 XLT. anyone stuff bigger speakers in the factory locations? What about a powered sub? Anything out there that's worth it that fits under the passenger seat or some other unobtrusive location? I didn't get an extended cab to fill it with a sub enclosure... Whatcha all running for tunes? Everything from Mozart to Metallica! Let's hear about it!

I'm no audiophille, so I don't have recomendations on components. Here's what I did in my extended cab. Keep in mind that the back seat doesn't really get used for much. I made spacers to go underneath the mounts for the bottom part of the seat in order to raise it up. Then you can either get some longer metric (I believe) bolts that go into the holes in the floor, or what I did was to run a piece of 3/8" all thread through the mounting holes and put a nut tight on each side. Then the spacers went over the all thread. I put the seat bottom over the spacers, making sure that the all thread stuck back through the holes. Then I put some 3/8" nuts and washers on the all thread. If you raise it very high, the seat bottom may rock back and forth, but you can find a way to deal with this at that time.

What I did in my extended cab was Rockford-Fosgate speakers all the way around, with RF Punch speakers on the back pillars(there an even more powerful Rockford-Fosgate speaker) the only mounting issues with the speakers where the rear ones where too deep so I had to use the included spacer plate. The front door speakers all I had to do was drill new holes. With the Sound ordnance 8 inch sub I got it fits perfectly under my 92 center jump seat , and I mean perfect like a fitted glove. You just attach it to the mounting brackets. I ran the power from the battery along the frame rail and up into the floor, and wired the sub to the stereo receiver and ran the wires under the carpet. This sub at 2/3 power WILL make the entire truck shake and you can hear the transmission fluid shaking in the bottom of the pan!:rock::music::music: Over all for what I did it will set you back a good 300 but I like a good loud high fidelity sound system so that's just me. Get the sub though it makes the biggest difference.;Sweet

That seems to be a pretty good price on that powered sub. Mine works way better (louder) than I like. My problem is that I keep cheaping out on amps and they don't last very long. I just need to bite the bullet and spend the money for a good one that will last for years. I also forgot to mention in my earlier post that the reason that I put the sub and two woofers underneath the back seat is to keep them hidden from the casual glance. Of course, as ugly as the trick is, most would be thieves probably wouldn't think twice about mine. HOORAY FOR UGLY TRUCKS!:Thumbs Up

Thanks for the help! I'm going to go with that sub, it looks like the ticket for sure! Are your speakers in the rear corners?
You must be registered for see images attach
mine look to be 5x7's

Do you have the part number of what you bought? If it's no trouble, a picture of what you did in the rear corners would be great! What head unit are you running?

I don't have the part number... and when I backed up my phone to my computer it decided that I didn't need those photos so I don;t have any pictures right now. But yes my speakers are on the back pillar and there 5 by 7s. I went of crutchfeild for them since they are a odd size. I came with wiring adapters!!:Thumbs Up so there was no cutting and slicing of the factory harness! Now the down sides are a bit pricey and are a bear to get in, you have to use the included spacer plate to finagle them in there because the magnets to big. But when you crank it up These things ROCK!!:music: They have such a crisp clear top end and a super powerful mid range With the sub has a great dynamic.
BTW I run this through a cheaper pioneer head unit that I'm probably going to replace in the not to distance future for something that can push more amps out but its still good. ;)

I have a regular cab 94. Previous owner of mine put pioneer 6x8s in the rears, pioneer 5 1/4 3 ways in the front (stock door molding fits) and I put a Dual TBX10A active subwoofer behind the seat. It's one of the angled sub boxes so I can slide my seat all the way back. It's not gonna win awards but it sounds good and provides some low end punch to CCR, Huey Lewis and the News and Motley Crue.

Thanks! Did the factory grills still fit? What do you have in the front?
Yep sure did, covers fit great! For the fronts Take off you door panels and you have to drill new holes but if you have had one of these trucks for long enough you should be just fine poking some more holes in it.;) Just wire them in and jam out, Note that your going to hear you back speakers more than your fonts due to them being on a even plain with your head.

I put some cheap 6.5" JVC two way's in my doors. I didn't remember how much I paid for them. I still had the factory head unit and I figured that was going to be holding me back anyway, so i cheaped out. I recently installed a new head unit and now I can tell my speakers just dont sound that great. I went back and looked, they were only $17 shipped for the pair, no wonder.

I got these on the way. I'm still not exactly sure where I am going to mount the tweeters. But they should sound a lot better. Also going to throw some dynamat in the doors this time around.
