I recently had a wheel bearing go out on my 91 f250 xlt lariat. I was able to replace the bearing, but i decided to redo my whole front end before it completely went out on me. I went to O'Reilly's, and they only had one hub, which is a good 2 inches shorter, and has about an inch smaller diameter on the inside. My smaller bearing doesnt go down to where the its supposed to go, instead it sits where the bigger bearing went on my old hub. Im hesitant to find a hub assembly off one of the same year for obvious reasons, but im not sure what year axle is on it, or how to find out. I know one of the previous owners did some stuff to the truck, but im not sure what the extent of it is. I need it fixed asap, but without a knew hub, its not very safe to drive.

You have a TTB front axle? It's a d50. O'Reilley probably sold you one for a d44hd

If your new hub is about 3" on the outboard end, it's for a d44hd

The part store will usually want to know your front axle weight rating found on the door sticker. 3850lbs is a dana44hd with the smaller hub. 4400lbs is usually the dana 50 axle with the larger hub.

If you have a extended cab, your truck came with a dana 50. If you have a regular cab and the door sticker says 3850lbs for FAWR, and the smaller hub doesn't fit, your axle has been swapped.

Some regular cab pickups were special ordered with a dana 50 front axle. Your door sticker will reflect this if it was.

They only list one hub assemby for all the idi fords. I dont have a sticker in my door jam, i believe one of the previous owners swapped the doors out. Its an extended cab, and i believe the truck has the dana 50

I don't see where you explicitly stated its a 4wd, I assume it is?

I am under the impression that the Dana 60 hubs are the same as the Dana 50 ttb. See if they pull a different part for an F350 as they only came with the D60 in 91.

EDIT: Oddly even RockAuto only shows the D44 hubs for both.

take a pic of your old hub, post it here and lots of people will be able to identify it for you. parts guy has to know a little bit of everything, they are not specialists on your truck. the guys here ARE specialists some are called Enthusiasts.

my parts guy can still go back into the paper catalogues and find my old parts . I even made my 15yr old daughter ask for him specifically and order tuneup parts for her 1st car 91 VW GTI.

he's been at it a few years though, we graduated highschool in 1984 :Thumbs Up now he is co owner of the parts store. small town service/bigcity fast delivery and now a Napa dealer. I never get the wrong part! saves a lot of time.

Where do you find one of those? It's been quite a while since I found one around here! Around here, they just know how to poke on a computer. They don't even know how to look something up in a book.:dunno

Heck, half of the ones around here barely know how to look it up on the computer!!!!

"Are those windshield wipers for 4wd or 2wd?" :frustrate

The last one that I knew was back in the early 2000's. At first glance, you wouldn't want to have him help you at all. He had Einstein looking hair, Coke bottle glasses, and he still had to get about a foot away to read something. We were working on a 3/4 ton Square body Chevy with a 6.2. It needed a new clutch. I put a new clutch in but when it was running, in gear, and you let out on the clutch pedal, it acted like the pedal was still pushed in. We took the clutch back as defective. I put the replacement in and it still did the same thing. I took that one back and got that guy. He asked what was wrong so I told him what it was doing. He looked in the computer for a while and then finally got out the book. He found a clutch that was made differently (I don't rememeber what was different) and suggested that we try that one. He had to order it in, so the next day, I put that clutch in and it worked perfectly. After that, I always asked for him when I went in or called on the phone.
