91 ford f 350, 7.3 idi non turbo e40d trans
Was recently towed and i assume they removed the driveshaft, since i got it back it is slipping, especially on take off, and no lockup at highway speed, lockup is on a manual switch and worked fine for 2 years, any way i can't get a reading on the dipstick at all when it's hot after adding 6 quarts of fluid, cold it reads about 3 quarts over full. anyone have an idea of how much fluid could have been lost when they pulled the driveshaft??
And does anyone have the wiring diagram used to manually lockup torque converter with a switch so i can trace it out and make sure it isn't the switch used or the relay used.

Is your “cold reading” when the truck is on ? First start of the day?

E4od trans holds 16.5 quarts roughly , and if you got towed they took the driveshaft off , but I don’t see why or how that effects oil level that drastically ? I took mine off recently to do the center support and u-joints and I didn’t loose much oil from my e40d.

If you get no reading after cleaning the stick , sticking it back in and it’s dry then that usually means you need to add ATF (engine running /warmed up roughly )

Depending on how high they lifted the front of your truck to tow it, and how hard the tow truck started and stopped, you could have lost a lot of fluid out of the rear of the trans.

The no lock up piece is interesting, I’m sure one of the electronic trans folks will chime in and help you with an ATSG diagram.

They lifted it high enough that they folded back the tongue jack on the trailer that was hooked to the truck. One of my neighbors said something to them about the fluid leaking out all over the drive and the jack and they told him thats not his problem. All this is because 1 trailer tire was touching the grass. My neighbor took pictures. The bottom of the front tires was about knee high. Now my HOA is fining me $200 for the oil spill.

I once had a tow truck hook his winch to the pan hard bar on a fiat when he pulled the car onto his flatbed. Bent the crap out of it and pulled the axle sideways. Easy enough to fix with a press. He wasn't a very pleasant person when I called him to let him know he should be aware of this with future tows.

If your neighbor has pics, it might be better to try and get the HOA to bill the tow truck company. They're the professionals here and should know better. Good luck with that though.

@slyhog022056 ,

well the trailer should of been disconnected, the guy who towed you should have done that, I would take pics of the tongue jack damaged and send it to the company’s manager cuz that’s some ********

Anyways . Seems like you lost 8+quarts of ATF

Keep adding ATF till you see it on the dipstick, (while the truck is running of course )

You shouldn’t have issues after that, unless you had issues before you got towed .
