If this is a diesel, the transmission control is built into the ECM/PCM. The one mounted in the firewall behind the parking brake.

It is diesel so I guess that means it will need a new ecm the lite on the shifter will not shut off and it won’t shift into 3 gear.

The ford dealership said it need a new tcm and nobody has one in the USA they did if they find one it would be about 600.00 So I went and picked it up I am not happy with them at all they said it was the shifter replaced it and charged 350.00 and it still don’t work the truck only has a 100k on it it’s in mint condition.

Sounds like they do not know what they are doing with an older truck. You need to pull the codes as mentioned previously

First thing I'd check is the vss. There are a few other possibilities that could be narrowed down further with codes. But without that information, start with the cheap/easy first.

Might just see about repairing ECM. Pull codes of course. I repaired mine. Had a bad diode, capacitors, and worked fine after the fix. I would think anyone who does electronics repair should be able to handle it.
