My 89 7.3 turbo c6 isn't in horrible shape, but the constant slight slipping under acceleration when towing and the massive slipping in 2nd when I get on it (even empty) have forced me to go manual... Ok, probably not forced, but I wanted to before I got this truck. Haha

So I'm doing it... Eventually.

I picked up a 89 gasser manual f-superduty for $500 and will be swapping it over once I'm sure I got everything I need.
I have a solid flywheel (t19) off a 6.9
Can I use the clutch and pressure plate off the 460? They are new... Main reason I ask.
If not, what do y'all recommend for a tow rig?

Yes, I know I have to drill out the bellhousing to bolt it up.
Yes, my t-case (I'm 4x4) will bolt to the back of the zf5 when I remove the parking brake from the trans (anyone need one?)
Yes, I will thread lock the flywheel bolts after I remove the flex plate spacer.

I will try to document the swap here, or make a detailed swap write up (I haven't been able to find a one-stop-shop on this)

Don't throw the C6 stuff in the scrap pile, some of us hate shifting - and hate electronics!

You can use the 460 clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing, will need the diesel pilot bearing. Also make sure your flywheel is drilled for the 12" clutch disk

Is the ZF-5 coming out of the Gasser? If so, the bell housing bolt patter is different. I've heard you can make it work, but better to get the donor from a diesel.

Is the height (relative to clutch fork) of the flywheel for the T-19 the same as the ZF-5? I would have thought with the dual mass flywheel stock, that the solid flywheel conversion would be taller than T-19 4sp flywheel. I'm doing ZF-5 swap too and have a T19 flywheel, but I thought I woiuld have to buy the 1 piece solid conversion (with flywheel) from luk.

I have 3.55's, so the wide ratio of the gasser is what I was looking for.

As far as I know and what research I have done, the t19 fly will work just fine for the zf5.

Anyone got anything different?

I put 2 gasser ZF5's in 2 of my diesels. I thought the gas pressure plate was different and couldn't be used.

I prefer the ZF5 gasser as well. I have 3.55.

On both of my installs, I purchased the LUK solid mass flywheel conversion. Got em pretty cheap online. LUK 07225 $250 at rockauto. I tried the bolt through mod to make the dual mass flywheel solid and it was off and caused a grinding noise.

I don't think it will. Why do they make the conversion solid flywheel kits if the t19 flywheel would have worked? All you would have needed would be to install the t19 setup to convert to a solid flywheel. But that's not the way it works, they have a special conversion flywheel along with the different clutch disc with all the extra springs in it.

I have never tried it, but I do not think it will work. It doesn't make sense that it would.

Ok, thanks for the info guys.

Time to pony up on a flywheel and clutch kit. :-(

I bought the truck not running. Fired it up on gas through the intake.

Today I blew out the clogged fuel lines and ran her for a while getting all the old gas out of the system. The trans is in perfect shape. Shifts so smooth and tight! I'm happy.

Any idea on what parts are interchangeable with my f350? The front brake lines are brand new on the f-superduty.

I’ve got a solid flywheel and clutch that’s never been used, just needs a pressure plate, I’d take $50 bucks for it
