Crack one injector line at a time and see if the tapping goes away with any individual injector. Also if you have a temp gun you can measure temps at the injector bodies, if you have injectors that are significantly hotter than your coolant temp, they are hanging open and combustion is entering the bodies.

Injectors appear fine and tapping is still there, replaced the radiator so I did an oil change while I was at it, no metal, coolant, and did not appear to be diesel in the oil, and no oil in the coolant so I guess that is good. I am going to put the known good injectors from my other truck in it and see if there is any change today

So I moved the injectors over and it was idling fine, then shot metal and oil out of the block and oil pan. She's a gonner. Now I need to find someone to swap engines over

Tapping and smoke went away and was running good, barely any blowby as well. It was a very sudden break

Generally the answer is "NO". Holes in a casting, like an engine block, ruin the strength of the block.

I didnt think it could, I'll inspect it when I get it out and may save it for a rebuild if it is possible, but I am thinking about putting a 6.9 in it, There is one available locally

If the block is cracked or broken she's done. A new block will be needed.
Agreed.

While maybe technically "fixable" depending on the damage... It will never be anything I'd want to rely on.

The truck is going in for the engine swap out this weekend, hopefully they know what they are doing. One is V belt and one is serpentine, one has an external voltage regulator and one has it in the alternator.
