Front wheel bearing fail

Hi all. The front wheel bearing went bad on my sons 86 f250 4 wheel drive and I need some quick advice on fixing it. I tried to watch some videos but nothing seems specific. I know I need a special tool and snap ring pliers also? How many bearings are in there?
If someone can give some quick pointers, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!! I plan on fixing it tonight

Anyone? I gotta start finding parts in about an hour. Autozone won't know the special tool I need

Should only be two bearings in there. As for the special socket tell them you need an axle nut socket. I can't tell you the size, should either be dana 44 size or dana 60 size (dana 50 ttb should be the same size as the dana 60).

If they look at you like you have two heads, you may have to use trial and error. Should be a socket with four pins I believe.

One more thing, do I just snug up and back off a hair like always when working with bearings that just have a standard nut?

Truthfully I've never actually done one. I only know what I've seen online. I will be doing it eventually so I have researched it.

Yes my understanding is you do it basically the same as any other wheel bearing, snug it while turning to seat it and back it off a little bit.

Do a search for Ford Dana 60 wheel bearing replacement and it should be the closest match.

Do you have a manual for the vehicle? If the manual available in autozone covers replacing the front wheel bearings, it's probably money well spent.

I really jumped the gun on this one. I got the truck in the garage and started tearing the front hub apart and come time to remove the caliper to remove the assembly, the top pin on the caliper was missing.
Lol, that's what was making all the racket and not a wheel bearing. We returned all the parts and the special tool we bought and got off easy this time. I'm a little late reporting back on this one and thanks again for everyone's help.

You should have kept the special tool. You will be in there one day sooner or later.

Mine has a washer between the 2 adjusting nuts that has holes in it. There is a pin sticking out of the inner nut that must go onto a hole in the washer.

The later trucks have a special nut assembly that "clicks" and is self locking. You push inward to loosen it.

Mine does too, and I HATE IT. Worst design ever for servicability.

Can this be retrofitted to the old style?!? Please OH please??
