The IDI could have done a little better.

I have new wiper arms on the way. The retaining clip broke and the springs are worn on both of mine.

All my parts to get the AC going again are in... and I am going to try and install sunday.

Those kind of things aren't fun. back in the early 90's.I had a Dent Side truck with the fancy new two blade wipers that were all the rage at the time. The previous owner installed them, not me. I was helping my sister move on New Year's Day and I was taking a friend of hers back home, 60 miles north. A slight drizzle turned into full blown freezing rain. I was poking along at 30 MPH when the driver's side wiper flew off. It went over the top of the cab and landed in the bed. I pulled over and was able to reattach the wiper with some baling wire that I had in the tool box in the bed. I made it back just fine after that. An hour drive turned into about a 2 1/2 hour drive. At least the friend was attractive!

Yeah when the wiper broke there was a guardrail and I could not pull off. When I pulled off I went off the shoulder to god knows what. Fortunately it was okay but on this section of interstate I could have easily gone off into a soft, steep shoulder and gotten stuck.

After I sat there about 30 mins It looked like the storm wasn’t going anywhere. I was only 6-7 miles from home so I got back on the road. I had no rags or napkins in the truck so I took off my shirt and had to keep wiping the inside of the windshield off, and steer from the middle of the seat looking out the pass side windshield (that wiper was fine). As humid and warm as it was inside the cab, coupled with the cold icy hail, that windshield had more condensation on it than the ice cold beer I’m looking at now.

My RV's wiper motor is weak, or maybe the linkages are sticking badly. If the windshield is wet enough to lubricate the blades, that helps. If the wind catches them it'll start going if it's otherwise refusing to move. Today with just very light rain, they didn't want to move at all at first until the wind helped them. Then it was stuck again when I got back until I got out and moved the arm by hand.

It looks like the metal part of the dash can come out by just removing philips screws to access the wiper motor, since it's in the dash, not outside under the hood. I'm going to check Dollar Tree for spray lithium grease and try to lube up the linkages to see if it helps, since the motor is about $70.

I might have to spring for the motor after the new year, when I'm going to be in a city where I drive after dark every night, often with rain. Normally I don't because I'm usually in places I don't know well. But I know that city so I don't mind it. Plus I only drive a few miles after dark, mostly in very well lit places. This past winter/early spring when I was there, I just dealt with the poorly working wipers, even at night.

Unless I can figure out a way to take it apart and lube it. It looks like it comes apart fairly easily based on the photos online. I might try that before replacing, since the core charge at O'Reilly is only $1. (Why even bother having a $1 core charge?!) If I tear it up trying to fix it, it's no big money loss.
