I just picked up a 2wd bullnose. It has a c6 and J type gear vendors. Reverse works fine, but it shudders in forward gears and doesn't like to move. The trans was recently rebuilt and is just out of it's warranty. The first thing I noticed was the wires to the GV were broken at the solenoid . However, from what I understand the GV shouldn't have anything to do with it. I've read that if the GV breaks you can just turn it off and drive without it. Is that true? I'm thinking it's in the trans, but wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions before I pull it out and have it rebuilt.

I believe that you're right. The OD doesn't affect the operation of the transmission. Before you do anything else, find out where the transmission was rebuilt and talk to them. Tell them what's going on. Show them any paperwork you may have on the transmission. See if they'll work with you on this. The worst they can do is tell you no.

That is a good idea. I will give them a call. I have the receipt , it was $2500. They replaced everything. And it only has 13k miles since then.

I hope they work with you. If not, you may want to look elsewhere to spend your money. I'm not talking about fixing it for free. Even half price would be a huge difference.

Certainly not an auto trans expert however I think C-6 has band adjustment bolts on outside of case. Might be something to try before spending big coin......

Thanks for the suggestions . I am going to get the rear end on stands today , put it in gear and try to narrow down the noise. I'll look in to the band adjustments. If it is the trans I'll pull it and take it in to the trans shop and see what they will do for me.

The fluid is at the proper level and looks/smells perfect.

I would call the shop first. But just in case, here's what I have:

Much of this is outside the scope of what a average person can do, but at oil burners, I like to think we are above average - so keep what's useful and discard the rest.

Theres a seal in a C6 that engages the forward motion. It's quite easy during assembly to damage this seal if you are not very careful. As you put things back together you have to use like a thin feeler gauge to help the seal go in to its bore without it tearing or folding. I'm not really an expert but I have had this exact problem and this was the cause.

Ultimately you're looking at a full transmission tear down.

On a side note... do people really charge $2500.00 for a C6 rebuild? That HAS to include R&R? Even then.... crap, if you were local it'd be just an afternoon in my garage after pulling the transmission.

Edit to add: when first assembled, even with a slight tear in the seal, the transmission may work just fine. Over time, that tear will get worse and worse until it fails.

$2500 does seem high for a c6 rebuild. But it did include R&R, new TC and tans cooler. Thanks, I'll mention that to the shop and see what they say.

OK, with torque converter, cooler, R&R, and warranty, I guess maybe $2500 isn't too crazy. I may be getting old, but I'd feel better at 1/2 that price.

Went and looked, heres a pic of that seal.

Oh hell, they put a LOT of hard parts in it! What'd they keep? Just the case?

For the parts they put in, that price is affordable. Someone must have blown the original all to hell and back.

Ya it looks like they replaced just about everything but the case lol. So I'm hoping it will be an easy/cheap fix!
