gonna do a Cummins swap in my 86 f250 6.9 with a t19? I found a 1994 donor truck with a nv4500 can I use my ford transfer case instead of the dodge and will the factory crossmember and transmission mount still work? Or at least the transmission mount be close to the same spot?

I've done some research on this swap, however don't take my answers as 100% accurate...... I think you need an adapter between transfer case and nv4500.

The only thing the nv4500 will do is save you money on trans adapters.

The tcase needs to be sourced from a Dodge, along with all your linkages to get it to work.

Unfortunately the Ford tcases won't fit :( unless you source what, an nv271? From a Dodge application. They are basically the same unit's between Ford n Dodge, inputs are different. (Don't quote me, I've done limited research for my Cummins swap)

Trans xmember is close, but some mods are needed to fit.

Good news is, the nv4500 shifter is pretty spot on in the cab!

Do you have a zf5 handy? Believe it or not, it is a much stouter trans, but if the nv4500 is fresh, updated and can get it for a steal, nothing a little welding and a big ol' hammer can't fix!

I will say, I have an NV4500 in my chevy and prefer the ZF5 thats in my ford. Mainly because of the tighter ratios. Besides, the ZF5 doesn't take special proprietary fluid that costs $20/qt like the NV4500 does!

I thought the advantage of using Ford transfer case was speedo hook-up? Will 86 Ford speedo cable fit dodge transfercase?

You're right about the gear spacing. I think those were the ones behind the 6.5s. Those were terrible. the RPM would drop so much that the engine would drop completely out of the boost range when up shifting. I would shift at 3000RPM and it would drop 1500RPM (give or take) when shifting gears. It made them feel more gutless than they really were. Not so with a 7.3 and a ZF5.

Exactly. Mine actually came from behind a 6.5. It's not AS bad with my 350 gasser in front of it but the gap between 3 and 4 is terrible.
