Howdy Oilburners! Today I am proud to announce some new products from Classic Diesel Designs, the ultimate factory/093 turbo option, and our own v-banded intake manifold:

This turbo is the best possible combination of parts to upgrade the anemic factory T04B H3 turbo into a modern firebreather while completely bolt-on. This turbo is built re-using only the factory turbine housing, which is machined for the Garrett T350 inconel turbine wheel, then a new bearing housing is used with an upgraded oil seal ring, and 360* billet thrust bearing. From there we use a custom billet backing plate and compressor wheel, and finally topped with a new Garrett T04Z, anti-surge, .71 AR compressor housing. This compressor housing features an anti-surge 4" inlet (vs 2.75 stock) and 2.5" outlet (vs 2" stock) with v-band option.

The billet compressor wheel is a very special feature, it is an off the shelf GTX40 wheel, that is cut down to a 62-1 sizing of 62mm inducer/76mm exducer, it utilizes all the benefits of a modern billet Garrett wheel design, in the packaging of an older style wheel, while still being rated for 70+lbs of air, enough to make up to 400 hp at the crank. This wheel with its t350 turbine wheel and tight exhaust housing, retains stock like spool characteristics with the big top end power of a big single turbo, and with its modern anti-surge compressor housing, it is very favorable for heavy towing:

Our intake manifold is an oem intake, milled down the intake flange to a flat surface, then boxed in with 3/16" plate and billet 3" v-band style flange is welded in for a leak proof, high flow solution for using fitting larger than stock turbos at the back of the engine.

This intake manifold requires a core to be modified, and is $550 shipped. For an additional $150 we can ceramic coat the intake to insulate it from the hot engine, preserving the look of the intake, while helping to feed the engine with cool air for better air density and more power. Our ultimate IDI turbo also requires a core turbine housing and is $1400 shipped to the continental US. If you do not have a core or you want to use a larger AR turbine housing, we offer .82 and .91 AR housing with 3" vbanded outlets.

Thank you Oilburners for your continued support!
Thanks, Wes

You’re thinking of a different idi here, this is a customer’s truck I’m putting another engine in.

Intake manifold is gorgeous! Best set up yet.
Any future love for the Banks Sidewinder? Like a drop in replacement for the Mitsubishi turbo?
Thank you! This exact turbo with either the .8 or .9 AR turbine housing would be a great bolt on upgrade for the sidewinder turbo at the same price plus the $150 for the housing, $1550 shipped.

Thewespaul, what is the a/r ratio of the factory exhaust housing? Does boring the housing for the bigger exhaust wheel change the a/r ratio?

With the factory wheel it is a .82 AR, going to the larger turbine wheel also reduces the AR since it is a ratio of wheel size to housing size, so it would be closer to a .63 AR housing with the larger wheel.

Wes, could this replace a Hypermax van turbo?
It sure could, you would need the turbine housing with the v-banded outlet, and may need to do some clearancing around the compressor housing, but otherwise it will bolt on using the same oil feed and return. The stock downpipe should even work with a bit of adjusting, should just need to extend and weld a v-band flange on the end.
