Well we got to @Thewespaul shop around 6. Got my parts loaded up and had him clean and set the pop pressure on my spare set of injectors.

The last leg of the trip to his shop from Austin was unbearable. There are way more hills than I imagined there would be and the truck could barely move up the hills with an EMPTY TRAILER. It was supposed to be a 4hr drive from our hotel and it took 6.

Well Wes started pop testing my OLD injectors, the ones that I drove down on.... I ran this thing all the way from NY to Texas with ONLY 7 WORKING INJECTORS!!!

That being said, the "good" injectors were only popping at 900-1000psi which is way low compared to new and is considered "worn out" according to spec.

Got the timing set and headed to the hotel. Tomorrow morning we'll pick up the trailer from Wes' place and head out. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes with 8 working injectors LOL

I'll bet that it will run MUCH better. It's good to visit with him in person isn't it?

Yes indeed!

I'm sure it will be much better, I left the trailer there overnight but I had a hard time driving the speed limit to the hotel. It's not a crazy huge difference, but when you're used to driving with your foot on the floor it's difficult to let off! I was running faster on the freeway with half pedal than I had been with it floored.

That looks like the gas station to the northwest of his place. I stopped there too. I heeded fuel pretty bad by that time. The only exit off of 35W to get to Bulverde was closed for some reason so I had to go clear south and take I 10 west to get to his place so there was extra driving that I hadn't planned on.

Yessir it is. We stopped for cheap diesel and subway for dinner. We're actually stopped in Greenville at IHOP for uhh... Dinner? Breakfast? I don't know its 1am LOL

I've got a 100gal transfer tank and both tanks working right now. I bought $100 worth at that gas station at $2.57/gal and $150 at $2.55/gal in Royse City. Most of the truck stops are closer to $3/gal and it's over $3/gal in NY so I'll buy it while it's cheap!!

I'll bet you'll get better MPGs too.

Probably after I drop the trailer. It's marginally better power wise... But I also have another thousand pounds and am towing a brick against the wind so

I used to try to work this way. Then I figured out that I just use the cheap stuff too, so I don't try very hard. That said, years ago, I learned that sometimes all you have to do is get a couple of blocks off of the interstate and you can find fuel $.10-$.15/gallon cheaper. Of course, now I HATE taking the interstates so I travel mostly the back roads yo drive through smaller towns. That means the price of fuel is the price of fuel. Oh well. It's a trade off.:dunno

Likewise Wes! It was a pleasure meeting you and your family!

Hope the rest of y’all’s trip goes just as well!

No such luck! We actually blew ANOTHER drive tire just outside of Memphis, and I believe it caused the short that burned up my taillight harness!

Trailer lights work after I unplugged the taillight harness and replaced the blown fuses. I'll have to fix it when I get home but it'll be fine for now since the trailer lights work. This project just keeps getting bigger LOL

Other than that we got to the rally safely, thanks again!

Well folks after 2 truck tires blew off the caps one trailer tire and one truck tire getting holes in them we're home safe.

Special thanks to @laserjock and @tjsea for their extra help along the way.

I'll post some updates at some point but it's time to finally sleep in my own bed!

Found the problem... This little *******

It was FINE when the first tire blew. Nothing was touching and frankly I didn't think anything of it. The second time it blew it moved that rubber gasket piece and shorted those wires out leading to much frustration on my part.

Sorry the pictures are bad. Basically 30% of the taillight harness melted itself together. There's a couple loose wires hanging out too.

I pulled the harness off of the frame I got from Wes and patched it up (it was pretty rough from years of P.O. hackery) and put it on. I have functional taillights again!

I have no fender markers so I'll have to figure out what to do about that. I have a couple ideas but I don't really want to hack up the truck side harness so I'm not sure what to do yet.

Well Tuesday and today (Thursday) she hasn't wanted to start in the morning. Both days she started fine after 9hrs sitting at work.

My batteries tested out at 900 CCA total. They're supposed to be 1350CCA total(675/EA) I'm assuming if the CCA are that much lower than spec the rest of the battery is similarly worn out. They were reading 13.5v he said. Am I barking up the wrong tree? 13.5 sounds a little high but I had just shut it off. Is it possible my 3G alt is overcharging them?

I priced a 1000CCA group 31 today with 200min reserve for $122. Plus tax and likely core depending on if they'll take my group 65 for it or not. I can only afford one right now so that'll have to do.

Is it true what they say about one old battery killing a new one? If I have to only run one for now so be it, I just want to know because if I have to pull out the other battery I'll have to figure out how to isolate the power cable for now.

That's what I've always been told. I've even seen it happen in golf carts. I know that even with my 1G, the voltmeter will read over 13 volts (can't remember how much) right after I shut the truck off. It will drop back to 12.7 after a time. I do know that batteries can show fine on volts, but still not have much in the way of amps. Since you just shut your truck off and only have a total of 900 CCA, I'd say that it's that time. If your 3G is working good, it should not overcharge your batteries. It has a regulator for a reason. At least it's summer time and you should be fine running on one battery for a little while. Don't have any extra electrical things (like A/C blower) on until it's running and, of course, get another battery in there before it cools off very much just in case.

Check all your cables. Maybe have your starter tested. It’s one of those things that flat batteries will speed the decline of your starter because it has to draw more current to make the same wattage. It just spirals. Same with the starter, if it’s getting weak, it takes longer to start so it’s harder on the batteries.
