Alright guys i got 1 question and 1 problem.
Question is how long to run engine to soak ip with cleaner or atf? I let mine run until idle smoothed out from air in lines.(i still run the mechanical lift pump)

Problem is when i took the bottom cap off of my old fuel filter it was full of gel like rust colored ****. So other than the obvious possibility of fuel tank rust what causes the gel? Its near 100° this time of year with super humidity and as mentioned before i only drive this truck when im home every 20 days now so it sits for a while.

Run it for about 30 seconds, or at least with ATF you can hear the engine tone change since ATF has a different cetane rating than #2.

Also drain whatever is in that filter till clean diesel comes out.

"...gel like rust colored ****." That sounds familiar. What fuel are you using? I had similar sounding crap when I was using B99. I let it get way too old, and it literally rotted in the tank. B99 is a biological so, yes, it can rot. That stuff killed a practically new IP. I was not happy.

The high humidity combined with old fuel makes me think you might algae in the tank. Algae forms and lives on the contact surface between diesel and water, if I remember correctly. Old fuel just gives the water more time to condense in your tank. I'd suggest perhaps a fungicide, an algae and fungus killer. There are a number of them on the market. The one which comes to mind is Biobor. You might have to visit a marine supple store to find it.

I'll attach a picture of the crap from my engine.

Looks to me a tank cleaning. Detergent soap water with the tank out of the truck. Wash it out and let it dry. I usually remove the fuel pickup to do this.
