Here is something I tried took the exhaust off just before the cat. made vary little difference, if any.
it will go to 2500 rpm at first start up then from idle 2000 rpm is max.
also hold open full throttle and spray starter fluid in the breather does not change rpm.
when you start it. cranks fast for the same length of time each time then fires idles fine. Not using glow plugs, unplugged.
OK if you can see the video it will blow black at full throttle. Let me know if you need something more from the video.

With engine running and you unplug it, should be a noticeable difference in idle, as well as idle just a tad higher.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately?

well I did look at this fuel filter before and it was not dirty but I did not notice the fuel until I was checking the lines for leaks ( sucking in air).
then I notice how dark the fuel is. I see this as vary strange because then I did change the filter and ran 3 gal of clean fuel through the system and the fuel is still vary dark when it comes out the return line at the rear tank.

my guess

black algae

fuel additive remember I have no history on this truck

A additive wont make it that dark.
It could be algae. But it could be engine oil. You could have some bad injector orings, sending engine oil back to the tank. Has engine oil level dropped any?

People want to believe the hpop oil is dirtier, it is the exact same oil from the crankcase. Literally.
To answer the question, you could say hpop side. But it's the injector orings.

yes engine oil looks like level is down take a little oil put it in some clean fuel and presto you got it.
Question: will this effect performance in any way?
any reason not to use this kit

Well you don't need the cups. Usually a bad cup will let it burn coolant. You can test the cups once you get the injectors out. Just pressurize the cooling system and look into the holes.
Get the alliant brand orings.
Dieselorings.com, riffraff diesel, Amazon, etc.
