Ok group this one is for the books: My '89 F-250 has this nasty habit of running great in town and when the a/c is one its very comfortable. However when I make a turn, either left of right, I smell the odor of raw diesel! What gives? I don't think my fuel tanks are loose. What can you guys proffer this confused driver?

When my fuel heater was leaking I noticed the same thing happening, I would only smell diesel when making a turn. It was the strangest thing, I never could see any fresh diesel on the connector, but I stopped smelling diesel after the problem was fixed so obviously that was the culprit. Do you see any damp spots on your fuel filter housing or return line caps?

I WAS going to say that the reason I emit an odor when I make a turn, is just because I am getting older.

Then I decided not to say that. Because you were looking for a real answer.

Aren't you glad I didn't say that? ;)

bbjordan, it doesn't make a difference how full the tanks are. its really strong it I pull outside air when using the a/c. When set on MAX it doesn't emit the raw fuel odor. As far as my heater: I placed a small paper towel under it and drove it for two days. when I checked it . it was slightly stained ; not very much

I was thinking it might be a leaky gasket between the tank and the fuel sending unit, but after reading more, I think Golden Helmet might be on the right track. It's probably something under the hood.
