1996 F-350

Just recently when I am idling the truck shakes and makes a fairly loud rattling. If you give it a quick hit on the gas it usually will return to idling normal but sometimes it take a few times to do that. Is this an idler arm pulley or what should I check first? Truck has 118,000 miles and have done nothing to it so far except change oil. Any suggestions of what to check out first are appreciated.

1) ICP sensor full of oil?

2) IPR nut tight against the solenoid?

I’ll check both thanks greenskeeper. Should the ICP sensor be full of oil and the IPR nut be tight against the solenoid?

ICP sensor should have no oil in the connector.....oil indicates failure. The truck can be driven with the ICP disconnected as a test.

The IPR nut needs to be snug against the solenoid so it doesn't move when commanding oil pressure adjustments.

if its a 5 spd ZF, dual mass flywheel might be a culprit.......... they can make some weird noises, so can a cracked/broken flexplate on an E4OD . its not always engine related.

It is a 5 speed it's still doing it now going on 2 years it runs great just when you idle it sometimes wants to rattle and shake still haven't figured it out but I will check what you mention above
