You wonderful people have me looking for a '94-'97 F350 4X4 front axle to start this conversion and now the problems seems to be locating a 1999- 2003 7.3 4R100 4X4 with the PTO option.
That front axle will set me back a grand. Ouch. Oh well this is my fantasy currently.
The trans is a can of worms and I am currently looking for the needle in the haystack.
What trucks typically used those trans?
Any way to see it on the VIN sticker?
Currently I have a lead on two, three? transmissions and I do not look forward to crawling under the truck to look.
This is all going into a '94 F350 dually crew cab. 126,382 miles currently.
Help.

Easiest way is to look under the truck. This is a rare option found on any 99-03 F250-F550 SuperDuty. You can find them reman from Ford. That will set you back a few clams, lots of clams.

If you score one at a local junk yard be sure to take the manual lever bracket. This is a one of a kind part and is obsolete from Ford.

I thought the PTO was on the transfer case? Any transfer case from the 70's on up will bolt up to any 4x4 Ford transmission. You will most likely have to fabricate or modify crossmembers and transfer case linkage though.

As stated above F450s and 550s are going to be your best gamble b/c the company’s that bought these trucks new were usually the only ones willing to pay the extra cost from new. There’s a yard down here in Houston that I’ve seen a couple PTO 4R100s but they had the parking brake in the back so you’d still have to swap the xfer case on. They wanted $900 and a core for these.

There’s a salvage group B&R Auto Wrecking up where you are that seems to have lots of these older truck scattered across their yards. They’ve got axles and engines for these trucks on eBay all the time. Maybe they’d be a place to start.
