I am looking for information relating to the best fuel economy I can get in a 1966 F100 with a diesel engine. So far from talking to local diesel nuts, Tucson, it seems the Cummins 6.9 with a rotary pump will provide the best MPG. However, I have recently had discussion about a 24 valve cummins with a rotary pump being the best. I would appreciate any thoughts, opinions, and/or facts concerning this endeavor.

The best I got was just under 8mpg on my motor trader truck. I must admit I was very excited when I was able to count the miles on two hands! The fact is that the savings do not depend on additional injections or the turbine, but simply on the driving style. I decided to start driving at a different pace, although I sometimes get very different indicators, especially with a load or in bad weather.

Op what are the build plans?
Some usage needs might help here!
Most "modern" diesel engines should beat the 352 fe that truck had....

I like the thriftiness and zip of my mildly tuned '90 D250 5spd. That's what I would use as a chassis donor for a classic truck to DD. No computer crap to deal with.

The 4BT will cost more to procure, more vibration, and less power (aka fun).
