Got in the pickup to take kids to school and my wipers wiped once and stopped.

Linkage bushings are toast and there are no direct fit replacements. Those two plastic pieces are supposed to be connected. They no longer are.

I debated making something work. Because, after all, I made the engine work.
But after feeling the slop in the wiper spindles, I decided a new OEM wiper transmission assembly that includes both spindles, the bar between them(and their bushings) and the arm to the motor pictured(with it's bushings)for $140 shipped overnight was an acceptable solution.

I could have saved $20 by waiting a week. But I'm used to my Amazon Prime deliveries and have no patience anymore...

Well, I'll be pulling my engine this week.
It's leaking like a sieve out the back end somewhere and I'm not exactly sure where. I did the rear main and the housing gasket. But I must have done them wrong because this guy marks his spot worse than a Cummins.

I was gonna put it off til summer and just keep feeding it oil. But I'll be starting a new job(taking over and running a local rental yard) ao my bandwidth will be limited...

Guess it'll give me the chance to do those rod and main bearings I forgot to do when I put the engine in... maybe I should just do a full rebuild while it's out...

Upon further inspection it looks like I may have some blow-by issues rather than rear main... Engine rebuild kit has been ordered(sleeves and Pistons included) and I'll start yarding the motor back out this week... Once I've reclaimed my shop from the lawnmowers that are filling it...

Did a leakdown test. Cylinders 1 and 4 had 45% blow-by and 2 and 3 had 20%.
Gonna hold off on a rebuild kit for now. But I did find several of my cam lobes have weird wear. Ridges on one side.

So I got a cam and rockers arm set on their way. Probably gonna set the rebuild kit in the corner of the shop for a rainy day(cuz I have the $$ right now) and then build a pcv catch can for between my valve cover and air filtertube\turbo intake pipe.

Life's always exciting...

My diy catch can assembly.
If I were to do it again, I'd go to harbor freight for the air line filter instead of Lowe's. But it works.

2500 miles. Gotta empty my catch can every 3 or 4 tanks. Not too shabby for a budget junkyard\craigslist build that cost right at $2000.

Small update. Decided I wanted to add mobile repair to my business. Needed a work truck. Gonna get graphics next. Found the toolboxes for $300. Made a mount setup. Was gonna shorten them but that seemed like a lot of work...

Well, the MazdaBishi had been down for a bit... It had developed a profuse oil leak... Because I had not made enough clearance in the oil pan around the front differential, and after 7000 miles it had made contact one too many times.
So
I undid my lower crossmembers that hold the front diff and dropped it .75". And undid motor mounts to lift the motor up 2" so I could beat some clearance into the pan and braze up the hole(plus the one I made making clearance). Got my oil leak sealed up. Decided to finally do some exhaust, as my wife says she can hear me from the Time I leave my folks driveway a half mile away(I've been running straight pipe that dumps under the cab).

2 1\8 tubing is nigh unto impossible to find. So I went up to 2 1\4. Got a glasspack, an elbow, a hanger, and a tailpipe extender. Looks funny (so do I...) But it sounds good. Still plenty loud but it took the sharpness off the exhaust note. Got my tool boxes installed and my graphics on too. Time for work!

What is next in this thread, shortening the toolboxes, or stretching the bed?;Poke
With a handle like "shadetreemechanic" something tells me you've done something similar once or twice. :p
When I got these toolboxes I seriously contemplated shortening them(they were too good a deal to pass, even if they weren't the best fit)but ultimately decided it was a lot of work for appearances. I'll just keep my eyes open for a real service bed from a ranger\s10. And run what I brung until then. ;-)
