Hi,
So I've been thinking back and forth about how to make ride comfort a bit more nicer. Wouldn't really matter if the roads here were good enough, but they are getting worse and worse every year. I've already swapped to d60 which was a huge improvement over d50 ttb.
So I've thought a lot about rsk super duty leaf swap, which should make the front ride better.
I've also been thinking of swapping the rear drums to discs at some point. There's a lot of reasons for that, but won't confuse this thread by listing them.
As you can read from left, I live in Finland. So basically if I need parts for especially Ford trucks, I have to import them here. So this got me thinking, if I have to import heavy parts like super duty leaf springs, rsk kit parts, some rear brake parts for the disc swap plus how to make e-brake work (caliber on kit is usually some GM stuff), which is mandatory in every year inspection. Those would add about so much that I'm starting to lean on '05+ coil spring swap and importing a salvage donor truck for it. Bonus also would be to have a bigger brakes all around and available 4-link kits to front. I've been looking around and seems that the easiest donor would be F250 or F350 from 2005 to around 2010, since they all should have the same d60 front and same rear axle also. Diesel models probably have better suited spring rate for these heavy engines.
So my question is that, where do you guys buy your parts trucks? Do you usually buy them from copart or something like that. I've searched the net and most of the salvage yards doesn't have very good webpages or doesn't advertise much. Can you recommend a place where i could find one. There must be thousands of salvage f350 diesels over there to choose from. Wouldn't mind if the donor wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Cheapest to ship here is also South, South-East or South-West of USA and South-East the cheapest of them.
If i could choose some options, obviously 4x4, cab doesn't matter, axle ratios 4.1 or 4.3. If it's been crashed, the chassis should be ok with all the parts in it and wheels/tires too, since newer truck has different lug pattern.
What do you think is the realistic cost for the donor truck?
Hope that someone had time to read that, it came out a bit long, Thanks!
