Is 11k a lot for one of these trucks?

I scrapped a junk car today. Left early to go to work with the car on my trailer. Truck seemed pretty sluggish! Real Dawg on any hill. Seemed ok once on flat ground though. Down hills really pushed me!

My timing is ok and I have turned the fuel up as much as I dare with no turbo.

Got to the scrap yard and my gross was 11300lbs. Sound about right or no?

my crew cab is 8k empty

Yup and my chincy car trailer is about 1500# A good one could be closer to 2500#

I've had a 2500ish pound car on my trailer and non-turbo she's a dog. How old are your injectors and IP? They do wear out even though they still run. It's not fast, but it gets the job done.

I don't think 11k is a lot for a gross if it's pushing you that's where adjusting trailer brakes help when I haul hay I usually pull about 16k and gross I'm right at 26k

That really isn't much weight, but towing anything with an na 6.9 is pretty slow. NA 7.3 does a little better, add a turbo to either one and they tow respectably.

I have towed some pretty heavy loads with mine (7.3 turbo and intercooled) regardless of weight (20k+), never has been as sluggish as towing light loads were before adding the turbo.

IF Irc...Heaviest I've pulled with a 7.3/ turbo, (could be more) +19k not really any issues on valley floor, but never had an n,a, idi...11 gross aint much, In the towing world, ya need BRAKES first then power.

1990 crewcab 7.3 NA zf5 3.55 Flatbed and 33s here.

With my 18x7 trailer, gear, and my crawler loaded up, I’d imagine I’m about 14,500. She’s a dog. Will be adding a factory turbo kit here shortly, no idea how old IP and injectors are. These trucks are bare bones in the power department.

Need a turbo if you expect to haul anything quickly. Plain and simple.
Basically, a good turbo setup and fuel to match will easily double the to-the-ground HP of a 7.3. It can do the same to a 6.9, but you generally don't go that far unless you headstud it.

I just pulled a 970 Bobcat(12K) on my 3-axle trailer(3k?), so grossing at 21-22K. I was able to do 60+ on the highway, but I had a hard time keeping it in 5th - Had to get up to 65 before I had the torque to pull in 5th. Otherwise, I'd be screaming along in 4th.

Going up a 5-6% grade, I started at 65, dropped into 4th and finally had to downshift into 3rd, screaming along at 50 up near the peak.

This is pushing 12-15 psi of boost, WW2-modded factory turbo, and cranked stock IP.
