Driving in the rain with an unfinished roof

I have a 1976 olds delta 88 hardtop not a convertible. The car had a vinyl roof but needed some rust fixed. Currently the old vinyl is off the roof and the bondo is sanded.

Personally, I do not know much about body work and paint. But I do know the bondo should never get wet.

The problem is that I have to drive pretty far before Ill have a chance to put a new cover on the roof. What is the easiest/cheapest way to seal the roof and bondo? I dont mind how it looks because I will be installing the new vinyl soon. Can I just buy some spray can primer and call it a day? What would you do?

I think epoxy primer would seal body filler. That would prevent flash rust on exposed metal too. Epoxy is a two component catalyzed primer, so you would need a spray gun to apply. I don't think any rattle can product would work.
Edit: You may be able to apply epoxy primer with a small paint roller. I have heard of this being done, and may even try it myself at some time. Epoxy primer has a recoat window of a couple of days. After that it needs to be sanded to apply any other coating. Best practice would be to sand and recoat with epoxy, then topcoat with the next product within the recoat window. Epoxy is not UV resistant and wont be a long term topcoat as it will deteriorate over time with sun exposure.
