Oil burners, I request a swim in the sea of infinite wisdom we have in this corner of the internet.

When I bought my truck I went ahead and bought a brand new ford CDR but after a year or so I know it needs a good cleaning.

what is the preferred method of cleaning one of these valves? I’m thinking that gasoline or brake clean might be a bit harsh on the diaphragm inside the CDR. what methods do you guys use?

I have 3 IDIs in my area that I do work to year round, and two of them would benefit from cleaning the CDR. I just did a bunch of new gaskets on one and I don’t want the blow by to ruin my work just because of a 60$ part :fan:

Any recommendations or past experiences are always welcome!

For what it's worth, I've always used:

50 / 50 Simple Green and water...rinse until clean
Rinse with clean water
Let it dry (I've used a hair dryer)
Spray inside with Balistol and "swish" around / drain

I'm not necessarily endorsing this method but it has worked for me.

Avoid solvents. I've never cleaned mine but I would start with something mild like the Simple Green or similar degreaser.

This is what solvents can do.
