How much straight pipe cost?

Personal experience is that N/A straight-piped is annoyingly loud. It gets old really quickly - a straight-through glasspack style muffler with the notches facing downwards(away from the exhaust stream) provides enough quieting to make it reasonable, without changing the tone too much.

Turbo, well, both my current rigs are straight-piped. Make sure you have a "full" exhaust with several bends and a dump after the axle, out the side and it'll be totally reasonable. The turbo makes it a ton quieter; at idle, the engine compartment is 3x louder than the exhaust.

When I got my (NA) truck, it had a stock Y-pipe sloppily welded to a straight 3" pipe dumping out the right rear. Way too loud for me in the cab, let alone the bystanders... first thing I did was get one of those big round Walker "garbage truck" mufflers installed. MUCH better.

Then I put a factory turbo setup with a Banks downpipe connected to the 3" + round muffler system. Nice and quiet now and EGT's are where they should be.:cool

I thought about switching to a straight just for the simplicity but I do live in Prius/Tesla-land and with 3" and a muffler I still get funny looks from people. Once even a homeless guy who lives out of a car made some comment about my truck being the loudest thing he'd heard! And of course there was the dirty homeless guy crossing the street in front of me who made gestures like my truck stank or something. The day I let a homeless person tell me about "smells" will be a chilly day in hell.

Get one of those stickers that says "Prius Repellent" and put it above the tailpipe :sly

My pump is turned up but my worn-out turbo is only making 6-7 psi at best. So if I slam the pedal down instead of rolling into it, I get lots of smoke. Useful for dealing with tailgaters and other annoyances LOL

I've done with a gasser by running a hose from the intake manifold into a bottle of ATF with a shut off valve in hose. That works great too!

My truck has the same feature and I use it to dim headlights of people behind me with their brights on

Hey kid. By straight piped, do you mean have the local shop remove your existing muffler
and put a piece of pipe in it's place? Cash money, That shouldn't be much more than $50 - $75
A complete 4" mandrel bent kit which would actually lower egts will be considerably more than that.
Otherwise it's just gonna be loud.

Not to hijack... I was in my dd behind a typical local good ole boy one night who was driving an OBS PS (8" exhaust tip, lifted etc) he must have thought I was too close leaving a traffic signal so he floored it. Imagine his surprise when the smoke cleared and I was in the same place behind him. Kind of nice getting a big wiff of diesel every once in a while!

To the OP, not sure of cost but both of my trucks have / had the Banks Magnaflow muffler. My dually was originally NA and then turbo - same exhaust, my 89 is NA.

On the last truck that I left NA, I built a better y pipe that went to 3 inch and a long straight through muffler. Was actually pretty quiet, but ran really well. Never had egt gauge in that truck, but it towed much better than it should have and very minimal smoke even towing in the mountains. Never once felt that it needed a turbo. pulled around 7k most of the time with that truck. It just pulled better than it should....3.55 gears and all.

I found a 4 inch exhaust system from a 6.0 diesel in the junkyard. I think I paid $75. Then, I bought a 3 to 4" connector and clamps. When I cut the muffler out the pipes fit perfect even over the rear axle. You do have the adjuster the hangers.
