I'm just wondering if that style will hold up in the rear from the torque of the diesel engine especially driving it daily.

Just read back and it was “u2slow” with the Detroit. I would be hesitant to put one in my truck if I towed. If it was just a daily driver it’s a no brainer bolt in traction. That’s just my opinion though, I have no experience with diffs other than open and my trutrac

Towing will be fine using a post trac or some other "posi" rear end. You will get a quick course in differentials as you will have to pull the Dif to add the posi. I did my first posi + diff when I was 22 years old. Get the patterns and proper tools and you will be OK.

yes i installed a Detroit locker in a friends 2wd PSD dump truck. he loves it!! has gotten him out of many bad situations. the truck is around 9,000 lbs and he tows his skid steer with it also.

the only time you might "feel" it is if you take a hard turn from like a stop and wack the fuel pedal. other then that you never notice its there.

Yeah I change gears a lot so I'm good with that part, I'm just wondering how well them lockers work with a diesel.i put them in front diffs for other people but that's not daily driven

I have now hauled heavier and more times with the Lockright in my W250 (Dana 80) that I did with my Detroited F350. No issues. I work my stuff hard, but I don't beat on it. If there's anything weak, its the stock carrier and cross-pin. How often do you hear of those breaking on a 1-ton diff?

I installed a Lockright in a buddy's 10.25" 2wd truck with 3.54 ratio. (7.3IDI & 5spd) Directly replaced the spider and side gears in the truck. Didn't need to take out the carrier.

Lockers work great with a diesel,. Best with a manual trans because you have some control over the lock/unlock.

I had a detroit locker in my 1983 6.9 4spd with dana 70 rear. but thats a complete carrier swap. used to be a centre cluster called a lockrite just replaced your open diff spiders/sides etc. I used my detroit locker offroad and never towed with it. a locker tends to be a lot more aggressive on road if you have a manual trans.

I found the opposite to be true. Both my drivers right now are locked and manual. Take your foot off the throttle to unlock. Take it out of gear and coast for tight parking lot turns.

I had the locker in an auto Ramcharger briefly and didn't care for that at all. It stays locked and you scrub tires like a spool... all the time.

was the ramcharger fulltime 4wd? those 203 cases were different.

I worked at a Parkway Ford back in 1998 and we had some F800s from the city works yard come in with noisy rear ends, they were little single axle plow trucks for the side streets and they would come in with a snapped axle shaft and ruined diff housing from runnign it too long liek that, it was a detroit locker> I had never seen one this large. Kitchener ended up pulling all the lockers before they had any more break axles. we did 3 trucks , the drivers said didn't even feel them break:rolleyes: so they just kept working them until they got stuck in the snow. I I would have owned a digital camera i would have snapped few pics. it was very cool carnage to work on.
