So I have run out of fuel a few times at a 1/4 tank, and PO said fsv doesn't work. So I get new shower head and plan to do the fix, its a flat bed so takes more time to get boards off bed then to swap part out.
Much to my surprise the shower head is intact except for the small rubber check valve in the side of unit, its at the bottom of tank so replace head anyways, obviously with the valve out its sucks fuel thru this opening first, acting like a broken off shower head, I was suspicious because the PO had replaced the tank, and figured the shower head sender would not be original and newer.

So on to the rear plastic tank, pull it dump 10 gallons of very old diesel 5+ years out into buckets, and find nasty sludge and broken, (sure original shower head). Now some questions,
1. Is rear sending unit same as front? for I already put front tank unit back in, looked similar.
2. Best solvent /fuel to clean rear tank?
3. Plan to disassemble FSV and clean, heard here it can be done.
4. Now I will use old shower head in rear tank and secure check valve better.

Forgot, what are the clips that hold the fuel lines to the tank? sure there are after market ones, PN? are they considered 5/16 lines?
also do I need the little orings on the tank stems, is there a dash number for the orings or are they "special" they kinda look flat, dont want to be sucking any air here!

Clips are available at any parts store. Dorman sells a pack of them. The orings should actually be round. Yours look "special", which means they are done. I don't know part number. I just put new ones that looked about right in mine and have had no problems.

The fuel line clips I used are Dorman, bought from my local parts store. I don't recall the parts number, and I'm not home to look at the package. If this is still in question when I'm home Tuesday morning I'll take a look.

Pretty sure someone was running something not-diesel in that rear tank. Possibly WMO or WVO. I've never seen diesel leave crud behind - it's a solvent!

That's what it looks like to me too Macrobb.

rwk, as a thought you might consider, I'm currently putting a Bronco 38 gal steel fuel tank under my '90 F350 Dually. Am also gonn'a put new sending/pick-up units in when I do it. Ordered them from T-Rex. The F26E fuel tank I got off EBay

That is worth considering. According to t-rex, there is no aftermarket options for sending units on that plastic tank.

What ever was in there was there along time, I know it sat 3-5 years not running, I've had it just past 3 years, fuel was yellowish, and there was some water in the bottom.
When we got it wouldn't start or run so we went ahead and did GP,IP and injectors only had 90 K on it so possible PO tried other fuels, maybe wrecked pump and Injectors? idk, it was a commercial truck however hard to say, we didn't want to take a chance, (one of son's business trucks) runs great now just don't want to stop for fuel every 15 or so gallons, the shower fix head will help now,

Thanks for the clip info figured they were avail, who's t-rex? have heard about the 38 gal bronco tank swap, wasn't sure it would fit in a C&C, frame is narrower, plastic tank was special for 350s and up C&Cs from what I have been finding out

T-rex is an aftermarket seller of sending units on ebay. I have used there stuff and it seems to be good quality. I have not tried the bronco tank in a c&c. I have two c&c trucks and just tolerate the sending unit issues.

If you need to, take that original sending unit and clean it up. Use some sand paper and paper towels and just clean off the rust.
Block one end of the pickup pipe and pressurize it with compressed air - check for leaks. (the return line basically does not matter, as long as the fuel doesn't leak outside the tank).
You may also want to find some fuel-rated paint and just put a layer of paint/enamel to prevent any more rust. Then, just put a new pickup on it and call it good - as long as you don't have any holes/leaks, it's nothing special..

Alternately, I know some companies sell aftermarket bottom-drain pickups for tanks - you cut a hole in the bottom of the tank and install it. That could work for your supply side, with the original sender being your return.

IIRC thats a 33 gallon tank on the C&C trucks, so another 33 gal tank should drop right into place.

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Yes you're right Macrobb, the plastic tank has no replacement sending unit according to T Rex site.

I Googled T Rex & ordered from T Rex directly instead of thru EBay & I saved about $10 per sending unit. I also am not going back with shower heads in my tanks.
My truck is a '90 F350 CC Dually.

& this is the #F26E 38 gal rear steel tank I bought for $107....their price keeps fluctuating all way down to $95 & then back up. Nearly everything out there I found is for GAS, NOT DIESEL, but some here on OB seem to think it won't matter. Either way I going to try it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/38-Gallon-...=item1e8def6a37:g:AG8AAOSwRWZb4qY~:rk:27:pf:0

I'm going to do another write-up of my tank mod etc later with pics when I get time. I been running WVO & WMO thru my rear tank since '02 & my looked like your's when I dropped it..... yellowish skum & snot!
