so I am looking to get a new Injector Pump now that ai found out mine is leaking.

I have had the turbo rebuilt and ceramic coated and should put out at least 15 lbs of boost.
I have installed R&D Stage 1 Injectors and R&D Fuel Rails and and the R& D air cleaner kit.
R&as does not have the pump I want the RD2-90, so I am looking at the Ford Bull Moose DB2 Pump.... the recommendation is that I use it with an inner cooler.
So question 1. Can I install this pump and use it until I get an inner cooler installed ?
2. Is the inner cooler absolutely necessary and why ?
3. Any other recommendations on good heavy duty IPs that can withstand running on veggie oil ?

Talk to wes iv don't lot of research on IP rebuilds and prices and from what Wes has told me he is my option plus his service is amazing and quality of products are amazing I haven't had a db2 done yet but his help with my Jetta TDI was amazing and saved me a butt load of money and the pump is top notch I know he does performance pumps give him a call but if you are set on a moose you could run it without a intercooler but you won't see the peak performance till you get that charged air cooled

Just a thought but when you say R&D doesn't have a 90cc pump is that because his site says out of stock or did you talk to him? As far as I know all his pumps are only being made to order so the site will always show out of stock you have to call him to purchase a pump

At 15 psi boost you'll definitely want a intercooler. Is this a stock turbo? The compressor maps I've seen are really falling out of the efficiency island at that boost level.

But I think you could install and run the pump, just keep your foot light and watch your EGT's until you install the intercooler. You DO have a pyrometer, right? :)

Edit to add: Wes posted a lot of good info here:

Yes , I have a pyrometer... and responding to the R&D website yes I only saw it was unavailable. Wes did my Stock Garrett turbo that came with the truck so it would make sense I send my pump to him, I really like his KSA’s
Knowledge, Skills and Abilites and his ability to do all the workload he does AND stay in communication with his customers.
Especially needy don’t know **** about deisels like me lol.

Just got a return txt from Wes now ! Ha !
Ok folks thanks for all the input,
I really do listen to you !
Well, some of you lol !
One more thing, tell me about inner cooler options for this 1994 factory turbo IDI ?

For those wondering, here’s the specs on rob’s turbo:
360* thrust bearing
Stage 5 t350 turbine wheel
62mm/71mm
Billet 60-1 compressor wheel
59/76

Intercooler options are pretty limited, you can build a kit from a piping kit if Calvin is willing to do some fabricating for you, but I should have a bolt on solution later this year that will be available :)

Because of the turbo upgrades it shouldn’t need the intercooler as much as a stock turbo would pushing the same boost, the larger wheels move the efficiency range up, but an intercooler is always a good idea, especially if you’re not planning on studding this engine

The bull moose works fine without a intercooler, just have to be a little light footed on long hard pulls. An intercooler will help with egt's and the bull moose can make some high egt if not watching and downshifting. If you plan on installing a intercooler later go for it. Also you might find your driving style with the bull moose does not demand an intercooler.

Thanks Wes, I think I will wait to see what kind of product you put out for inner coolers !
I’m fired up about that now !!!
Maybe I will just throw that truck on a trailer and tow it to Texas so I could actually meet you and help you spin the wrenches for the Install !!!

Yes, especially on a federal retirement it would be nice to maybe keep a little more of my paychecks ,
Wherever I end up I plan to convert an Onan generator to run on veggie oil and power my place with that and an array of solar panels on the south and west side of a wind generator platform and into a bank of batteries!
Or , I just may end up on a white sand beach in the Philippines with a 25 yr old wife lol. Either way my truck and all my plans are going with me.

Well worth the trip to Wes’ place. He is in God’s hill country, beautiful drive.
My truck is in his shop now.
