I have a 7.3 IDI and about 5 gallons of old brake fluid. It's essentially hydraulic fluid with anti corrosion additives in them right? Master cylinder has rubber seals and they never rot out. I'm doing some research and it says that dot 3 is required to not break down any seals or corrode any parts of the braking system. Just not sure how well it would burn.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dot 2 is a castor oil and alcohol blend.
Dot3 and Dot4 are glycol ether blends, not actual oil.
Dot5 is silicone based.
LMH is a mineral oil base, but with the crap they put in it, I still wouldn't try to add it to a fuel tank.
Might as well try to run antifreeze concentrate in all reality.

Edit: fixed my spelling LOL

While it is used in a hydraulic system, brake fluid isnt comparable to real hydraulic fluid.

Thanks guys. Ill just throw it out

One word of warning. If you choose to dispose of it in a fire, be very careful. If I remember right, brake fluid is highly flammable. It will flare like gasoline, not explosive, but it will flame up......

Just depends. Mineral based and silicone could be used as fuel.
But most of the others, not so much.
From what I found, most arent even really ignitable(say with a lighter, as compared to gasoline). Takes a lot of heat.

Dosent brake fluid trap moisture also it feels very dry if that makes sense I watch this thread because I've been interested in running alt fuels in my idi but brake fluid would kind of scare me

Go find some crude oil.Buy off top of tank for about $1.50/gallon.BTU content is higher than diesel, runs smooth and cheap.I must stress off the top of the tank..no water issues as the water settles to the bottom.
