Good evening Oil Burners,

In my haste to pull my old engine out and get the replacement in I seem to have broken the vacuum line nipple on the low vacuum warning switch. Does anyone know of a replacement or a work-around to fix this thing properly (alternate setup)? I traced out some part numbers and ended up with Motorcraft number of SW1794 or e3ta-12a182-aa; however, no one seems to carry this anymore.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Justin

The pic is correct. Finding this at ANY ford stealership is impossible but.. Try most any Navistar part counter. These engines originally were in the S1600 trucks and many bus applications. Then try any pic n pull wrecking yard.

Thanks for the replies, advice and offer. I'm going to try to put it back together like ole Humpty Dumpty first. I'm trying to get this thing started this weekend so I'm going to try gluing the nipple back on.. thoughts on an adhesive? Think superglue or some sort of "plastic weld" miracle adhesive would do the trick? If I can't get her to hold vacuum, I'll plug it and then seek out the right fix. I very well may be in touch soon Thewespaul!

Just out of curiousity, how many rigs have you cannabilized to have random pieces, parts, and gadgets laying around? I've debated numerous times buying a couple spare trucks off of the local classifieds.. $500-$1000 for trucks that "need a pump" or "transmission dead" in my area.

If its broke off I'd take and tap the plastic and screw a new metal fitting in it or get some Devcon they make products for everything and iv always had good results with it

More than a dozen at this point, can’t have too many spares

Did just later trucks have this? I didn't notice any extra lights when my vac pump was near death, when I was stomping the brake pedal with both feet from no power brakes.

Cubey, they started in 83, it should bring on the brake light until the vacuum is reached. It is the same light as your parking brake light.

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Mine messed up years ago on my '90 & I just plugged the vac line & disconnected everything. Finally removed the whole thing to make more room....good to go.

Edit: Probably cause myself a problem someday tho

Or... you could just chuck it in the trash and install a mechanical vacuum gauge somewhere in the cab. It will let you know a lot sooner that your pump is getting ready to suck its last breath.

Dry vacuum pumps tend to crap out with no warning. I've had many vacuum pump failures in aircraft. they work fine for years, then just die mid-flight. A lot of people replace them at 500 hours
