Cool start to your build. I agree the lift to tire ratios dont look right to me. I have 4 inch suspension lift, d60 balljoint front, flatbed, and clear military 37s with room. I could clear 38s no problem.

Since we are forecast to get a lot of rain I’m going to try to get the 7.3 running instead this Christmas break. I’ll change the oil, injectors, fuel filter, and possibly the lift pump since I’ll move it all to the other truck. Is there a quick way to tell if it is electric or mechanical without dropping the tank? If not, no big deal. I’ll see how much GPs are but I might wait on those for now. I’m hoping the IP is good as I haven’t found a shop yet who will rebuild it. If you draw a triangle from Greenville, SC to Asheville, NC to Charlotte, NC, I’m right in the center of the triangle if anyone knows a shop to recommend. Also, any more recommendations while I’m at it?

These trucks don't have electric fuel pumps (from the factory) on the engine, along the frame, or in the tanks. Your only two fuel pumps (again, factory) are the lift pump on the side of the engine and the injector pump.

There is fuel in the fuel filter so lift pump must still be good. I did find one glow plug broken, I’m about to research how to ohm the rest of them out. I’ve got the battery on the charger and about an hour before I try to start it, I’ll plug in the lock heater.

Make that two of them. I’m not showing continuity to the block with the others but I’m not sure if they’re bad or the the block is too rusty to get a good reading.

OH MY GOD! I had no idea that a valve cover could be that rusty!!! Actually you don't need the block to test the ohms on glow plugs. I rarely use it. The blocks are usually dirty enough or painted enough that it's hard to get a ground on it or the heads. I just use that nice, clean little area where your air cleaner seals on the intake. The worst you usually have there is a little bit of oil from the CDR. All you're looking for is a ground and the intake both conducts electricity and in bolted to both heads where the glow plugs are at.

I let the block heater run all night and everything was nice and warm under the hood. I topped off the oil, it was about 6 qts low as the oil pan seal has a slow leak. When I hooked up the batteries, the starter clicked but the engine didn’t turn over. I’m thinking it may be seized unless the batteries not matching had something to do with it. I’m not sure if it turned over for him or if he didn’t know what he was talking about. Either way, I’m only out $10 in diesel as the oil was just sitting around anyways and I still got a great price on the truck even with a bad engine!

I took a 15/16 socket and turned the crank over by hand so I now know my issue is electrical which I will resolve once I can afford two good batteries and new battery cables. I’ll also check the starter and relay while I’m at it. By the way, Merry Christmas everybody and may God give y’all a blessed new year!!

It could just be a bad fender solenoid. Just jumper the fender solenoid and it should crank over. I've had to do that before. No point wasting money on batteries before you need to.

So last night after church just for fun I turned the key and the engine cranked. After a couple of trys I got it to run for half a second. I’m think the glow plugs weren’t working and it wasn’t getting warm enough. I plugged it in to the block heater overnight and this morning no crank. Still have 10V at the starter when key is in starting position. I’m thinking the block heater may be opening the limit switch on the starter. What do y’all think?

With key on glow plugs are heating and voltage may be 10v. What is battery voltage fully charged with key off?

As was said earlier, try jumping your starter relay and see if it turns over. I’d check all connections especially since it turned over earlier. I’d also check fuel level in filter after sitting being it only ran a few seconds.
