Hi there. I will probably be poking around asking all sorts of dumb questions now that I'm a member, but here's the first one: I keep getting differing info on the capacities of my vehicle's two fuel tanks.

I've got a 1991 E350 7.3L short school bus, and currently can use only the front tank. The local Ford dealership told me both tanks had an 18 gallon capacity, but then again they filled my diesel bus with gasoline, which has wreaked havoc on my life ever since, so I don't exactly trust them. My fuel gauge reads full no matter how empty it is, so I've just been filling up more or less constantly, but it would be good to know. Have not found the info online anywhere. Folks over at skoolie.net sent me over here, told me you are the guys who know everything. So here I am! Anybody have the answer?

If it's the same as the stock trucks, yes 18. I'm only running the front tank, but my fuel selector switch does click and the gauge drops to E. I have never bothered trying to put fuel in the second tank since 18 is plenty for my driving habits. At the 1/2 tank line, it takes right around 9 gallons to fill up.

You might get a 5 gallon can and carry some extra fuel with you just in case. Just dump it in before every over fill up then refill it, so you always have fresh in the can.

Thanks, someone I trust a little more than my buddies at the dealership actually told me it was only 12 gallons and I have been second guessing myself all over the place.

I once pumped 15.658 gallons in my front tank, so its definitely not 12. I don't let it get that low usually. 12-13 to fill is usually around the lowest I go, around the 1/4 tank mark on the gauge. You should be fine going 100 miles without running out, even of you were only getting 8mpg. That would be about 12.5 gallons at 8mpg for 100 miles. Of course, you should be getting better than that, but it depends on differential, timing, injectors, etc.
