This actually has everything needed for a dmf to smf swap correct? Just verifying before I order it. [7.3 non turbo]. Its 100$ cheaper than half the other places online so it has me concerned enough to post this.

Finally found someone near me whose willing to do the conversion for me on my 7.3, though I have to be the second set of hands. But he has a lift and has done idi work before and knew they had a dmf as well as a mini cooper he just did a trans replacement on so I at least feel good about that.

See my thread “flywheel fiasco”

This kit is currently being installed in my truck. I’ll update that thread when it is actually in and working... should be no later than Monday.

But yea it comes with everything

All I'm going to be doing is holding heavy stuff while my uncles friend does the actual work / uses his lift and mobile trans jack to make a nightmare an easier looking job than what I'm sure it is.

Is there anything outside of making sure the flywheel bolts get thread sealant I should be ensuring gets done whenever this job goes down probably week after thanksgiving? It's pretty much just take old garbage out, bolt things together and put new garbage in correct?

If you want to have an easy time of it, pull the gear shift stub shaft out of the top of the transmission. It's held in with 4 allen-head screws. Cover the opening with plastic or paper towels or something to keep crud out of it.

I suspect the 'right' way of pulling the transmission involves peeling back the carpet and removing floor plate for more clearance/access to the trans. But, if you remove the stub shaft, you don't need to do anything inside the cab.

Make sure the bolt torques are correct on the bags of bolts. When I got mine, the pressure plate bolts had the wrong torque on the bag and I ended up breaking one. Called LUK and before I could finish telling the tech guy what happened, he says you didn’t take those bolts to *** ft lbs did you?? My reply was “All but 1!” To which he replied, we thought we got them all. They overnighted me new hardware. Probably good by now but I do warn people to check the torque specs printed on the bags.

That's the same thing that I do too. Those who right the instructions don't always know what's "right" as afr as I'm concerned.

Kit is in and working fine

By the way.. see thread "flywheel fiasco".. kit is NOT working fine (OP knows this)

Probably not an issue with the LUK kit, rather an installation problem, but I will update that thread with whatever the outcome is, for the benefit of the membership here

So the guy who is working on the truck for me called me tonight and said the back mount for my transmission where two bolts hold it to the crossmember and 12 bolts I believe he said hold it to the actual trans is broke and the holes in the trans part are worn wide so I'm going to have to find another one.

I'm not sure what he's talking about 100% he's going to send me a picture later tonight. I'll never find one of these. He said there is probably a seal and whatnot in there and isn't even sure how you would take that off for sure.

I am totally screwed. Wish I never even did this now.

That’s the back half of the trans which everything is loaded into, your not replacing that easily, requires reshimming the gear set and complete trans tear down.

Best bet is to find a place that can weld aluminum and get them to fix it up.

Also that is a coming place for the “ears” that the mount bolts into to break off.

Oops. You accidentally fat fingered this. It's 2 bolts, not 12. Before you go through all of the trouble to get the rear transmission case, find out if the holes can be tapped to a bigger size. Maybe a thread repair such as a Helicoil can be used so you can still use the factory bolts. as far as I know, you can buy new transmission mounts. If not, one could be found in a salvage yard. This is what I'd do if it was mine.

12 bolts are broken? I don’t think you even need to take that many bolts off the trans to get it off. Some pics would be good
