My brother found this1984 F350 for sale. Owner said make offer. Engine replaced within past 2 years (with a used engine) not 100% sure if it's a 6.9 or a 7.3 I would think the 6.9s are getting scarce, so maybe a 7.3?
Engine info sticker on valve cover says 6.9, but it could be from the original engine.
Non-turbo, 4 speed, runs, but needs batteries and tlc.
Not sure of rear ratio.
He used it to ocasionally pull a small dozer.
Got a new Cummings so selling this one.
Fair price?
I'm thinking $1000

If you get it, replace that cowl seal at the back. Can see where water has been pooling on air cleaner cover.
Not bad for a grand if it is running/driveable:cool:

Put the box end of either a 7/16" or 1/2" wrench on the head bolts. That will tell you. 6.9s have 7/16" 12 point head bolts while the 7.3s have 1/2" 12 point head bolts. I've never seen a fan shroud that has right and left sides that screw together either. Kind of cool.

Yeah the rusty breather lid was the first thing I noticed.
That's what happened to my 84.
3+ gallons of water in oil pan when I got it.

Of all the ways to tell 6.9 vs 7.3 that's gotta be the best. Thanks for the tip!
Good eye... a two-piece shroud is a great idea IMO. I hated my stock shroud so much I cut it in half, drilled holes and then zip-tied it back together for easy removal next time. Worked great till I converted to E fans.

OP nice find, I think 1k is a fine offer. He can always say no if he doesn't like it.

It's pretty much the *only* way to tell... Just about everything else can be swapped over.
I've literally bought a truck I thought for sure had a 6.9('87 W/ C6)... Only to find out later on that it actually has a 7.3 long block in it.
...Not that it really makes any difference, except that bigger head bolts = more clamping force = higher boost levels acceptable.

I think you can also look up the block casting number too?

Where’s it at? I’ve been wanting to do a sc drw bullnose race truck... can’t believe I’m saying this but it’s kinda a bummer it’s a standard. I’d want an auto for it, but I can always fix that later on.

Wes, my brother found it at a chicken growers farm somewhere here in East Texas.
He is supposed to go look at it again.
Maybe he'll go this weekend if he doesn't have to work.
I'll keep ya posted.

I don't know. The auto is better for building boost(and shifting without losing any) but /man/ do they suck power.
