I haven’t said anything yet because frankly I don’t know what to say. I certainly didn’t know him as well as a lot of guys here but I’ve always had great respect for Calvin. I saw someone else mention that they took extra time and care to read if he took the time to write about something. I can say I certainly did that as well. I was probably way more excited than I should have been when he sent me a FB friend request. I was just starting to get to know him better virtually and had hopes of making a western rally or needing a business trip out west so I had the chance to look him up.

To say he’ll be missed here is quite the understatement. He really was a great guy.

This is very sad news for me. I haven’t been on here in a while but my son stopped by today and told me. I met him a couple of times, once for a gathering when I bought a truck from him and then the second time to buy a transmission from him. I loved his knowledge, he knew a ton of stuff about or trucks. He will be missed by a lot of us for sure.

I liked him, and like many here, paid close attention to his posts. The good thing is all the knowledge he shared, and can continue to be read, and researched; I know I end up reading older posts a lot for information. In 50 years, someone building an antique IDI will be reading the kitty's words.

RIP

This is a great loss. In the 5 or so years I've been posting on here, Calvin was undoubtedly one of the voices I quickly learned to pay attention to and always read a post if I saw his name on it. Good ol Towcat.

It is funny how we get to know a personality from nothing more than some posts and in this case others experiences with them, but it is obvious he was truly a friend to many here and his wealth of knowledge has helped out so many people already and will continue to do so as long as this forum is a thing.

Thank you "towcat", who I later learned was a really good guy named Calvin. Your time on this forum and on this land did good for many. Rest in peace.

I was stunned to learn of this. My son texted me, having seen it on FB. As with all who knew him, we mourn his loss. I first met him, I believe, at the Chattanooga rally, but saw him again (as Ron's fine photo attests) in Michigan and perhaps one other time. He was always great to swap stories with, and his avatar photos were certainly some of the most entertaining to ever grace a forum. Does anyone know if his arrangements were taken care of? It would be mighty fine of us to send something to his family, and I would certainly donate something. For the man who gave us so much, we should all consider giving something back. I've still got some T-19 stuff he handed me and wouldn't take any money for it. We've helped out members before. Would love to see someone local to him and trustworthy to take up the cause. Rest in peace good and gentle man. Your memory will live on here as does Mr. Bill, OldBlue and many others.

Calvin was the type of group member we all should strive to be. I had no idea he was having health problems (probably due to lack of activity here) but this sure seemed out of the blue.

He was willing to lend some high school kid a turbo while his was being rebuilt, no money just "here you go, send it back when you're done".

Was sick when I got the text from Jared yesterday morning. Really liked and had a lot of respect for Calvin. Generous, level headed, fair, very friendly, extraordinary life experience, and was a wealth of knowledge here.

I fondly remember his cross country journey to Michigan for Ron's rally. He was coming in very late so Chris, Jared, and I stayed up, keep the fire going, waiting for him to arrive. We could here the distinctive sound of an IDI rolling down the highway toward the campground through the quite summer night. We were very glad to see he made it safely. He was glad to have someone to greet him and hand him a cold one after a very long trip. Really enjoyed his sense of humor. Jared still bares the "scar" of that Rally.... He will forever be know as Subway here thanks to his time with Calvin that week. LOL

Knew he was having issues with his health. Just didn't have a clue they had gotten so bad.

I agree with Mel.... it would be the least we could do as a group to send something for his services. Wish we knew the arrangements.

God speed Calvin. We love ya buddy and miss you very much.

Prayers for his daughter and wife.

Heath
