Thewespual it was supposed to be a Turbonetics turbo. I'm not sure what it actually is. Unfortunately I was very ignorant of turbos when I bought that one and was con'ed big time. I wouldn't feel so stupid if it was a Turbonetics because it would at least be worth what I paid. I have since studied turbos and bought a couple books on turbo charging engines. This is what the guy sent me on the turbo. It was a single item on Ebay so not one of the stores that sell turbos. It was listed as a Turbonetics turbo. Here's the specs the guy sent me:

"THIS IS A BRAND NEW(TS04) T-58 TURBO,(PHAT SHAFT) IT WAS ORDERED FOR A 6.9 OR 7.3 IDI FORD DSL TRUCK BUT NEVER PAID FOR BY THE CLIENT SO HERE IT IS.

T3 FORD STYLE TURBINE HOUSING WITH A P-TRIM BIG SHAFT WHEEL

CENTER SECTION IS OIL LUBRICATED ONLY

.55 A/R COMP WITH A (TS04) T-58 COMP WHEEL

RATED TO PUSH 550 HP - 750 HP POLISHED COMP HOUSING"

Since he lied about it being a Turbonetics turbo who knows if any of that is correct.

IDIBronco Pretty much. Once again I was ignorant of turbos when I bought it so didn't know that was an issue.

Yeah I've spent a lot of time reading about turbos and I purchased some books on the subject as well. Helped quite a lot.

Just a note on hp ratings for turbos. The 550-700 hp rating is for a gas engine, which is doable with that size turbo. Diesels require much more turbo flow to make the same amount of power as a gas engine, and this is exaggerated even more with an indirect injection diesel, the factory turbo T04B H3 is rated for 400-550 hp, but on an idi will struggle to make more than 250.

Good to know. What would be a good combination for a 6.7 CR Cummins? Thinking about running stock with a 472 SXE. That's what PDD did with a 06' 5.9CR and got around 540hp and 1040 lb-ft. Of course that's after the transmission is upgraded. Not sure exactly what I'm going to do with the IDI's I have. I've got one sitting in the garage and one in my other truck. Part of me wants to build them into monsters but twins are expensive so probably just going to get them running and sell them both and use those funds for building the Cummins.

TheWespaul how do you like the water **** system? Thinking about adding a Banks Power intake elbow and they have ports set up for water **** injection.

I think water **** is great but you have to set it up right to be safe. I have very little experience with the cr trucks, @Crawler may be able to help you out with advice for that, I would think on a stock truck an s366 or s369 would supply the air you need with still being snappy.

No twins not just the 472. Yeah that alone would probably be sort of flat and then tear your face off assuming you could get the fueling for it. No I was planning on running twins with EFI Live. I'm not planning on changing the injectors. I'm looking for something with plenty of power and that runs low EGT's and none of that rolling coal BS. If I remember correctly PDD's truck EGT's were running around 1250 with the twins pushing hard. I was thinking that a water **** system would help bring that down under 1100 and add some extra power. I remember looking at one set up where the water **** system added circa 300 lb-ft of torque and that sounds like fun to me. I don't remember the exact setup it was on though it was written up in EngineLabs.

On a side note anyone know how much it costs to get an IP rebuilt? The one on my spare 7.3IDI is supposed to be bad and I'm thinking it might sell better if the engine was running so contemplating getting the pump rebuilt.

Really don’t know enough to answer your questions on the modern engines, I can take stabs in the dark but don’t want to give you misguided info.

My rebuilds are generally 800-1000 for our injection pumps depending on condition of the core and how much fuel you need.
