It was a WONDERFUL weekend. I tested the new carrier bearing the I installed a couple of days ago. I took the truck on it's first trip longer than 35 miles since the rebuilt engine was installed. It was also the first trip with a load. I went to two different lakes with OHV areas with a couple of friends. I loaded up three three wheelers (my #1 passion) and my dirt bike. It was perfect weather for camping and the trip was uneventful. The engine ran great and the coolant temp stayed right at or just under 190 on the mechanical gauge. I did find out that some dummy still had the coolant blocked off to the heater core with the shut off valves. I was wondering how the heater core got plugged while the engine was out. Then at my first fuel stop, I checked under the hood and figured it out. Of course the sun was up by then and it was no longer 45 degrees in the truck. Just my luck! We had a good time. I will be doing it's next test in a similar manner this coming weekend too.

I was too. The 7.3 did pull the load WAAAY better than the 302 in the half ton would have. I even up bringing an extra three wheeler back home with me too.
Hee hee an "extra". Glad to hear engine performing so good! First big drives after massive repairs are always nail biters for me haha

It kind of was, but I had already made enough small trips around here that I wasn't too worried about it. with all of the rebuilt/remanned engines that I've been around, I can only remember three that had issues when they left. A 7.3 and a 6.2, both with fuel issues, and a 7.3 with cavitation. That block underwent a pressure test both at our machine shop and before it was built. It must have had a pinhole just far enough o the surface of the cylinder wall to pass the test, but not the compression of the firing cylinder (which has more pressure than we used).

Thought this morning the key seemed a little stiff.... Sure enough got back to the truck and the key turned way too far with no cranking.

Started trying to get the linkage rod to go down but didn't have any vise grips in the truck. Tried the key again and heard the glow plugs kick on.

Everyone around me must've thought I was crazy if they heard me laughing after I started the truck with two screwdrivers on the fender solenoid. Old iron +1 new computerized crap zero!

Good news is this redneck has a couple spare columns in the garage ;)

That's still a steal. Those things go for $500+ around here, nice find!

Got my column in. It's going to take some getting used to... It's a non tilt column from an :puke:automatic truck.

Oh well. She runs and I'm too lazy to rip my tilt column apart lol.
