Okay, so I changed my oil today and I miss calculated when refilling. I switched from 1 gallon containers to 2 gallon.

So it is filled to where it covers the “Do” on the dipstick where is says “Do Not Overfill”. So probably 1-2 quarts.

I know if you overfill it can cause the oil to get whipped up and creates air bubbles etc. Is this 1-2 quarts too much going to cause that issue, or will it just burn off? If I need to drain some, is there an easier way than taking out the drain plug for a second?

Thanks

I have seen electric pumps you can buy on Ebay or Aliexpress that send a small tube down the dipstick tube to siphon out oil. The idea is to perform an oil change without having to pull the drain plug. I wouldn't recommend doing an oil change that way, but if you really want to avoid touching the drain plug, there is a way around that. Honestly, I'd just drain the oil out through the plug.

Keep in mind the dipstick scale is intended for hot oil, not cold oil. So the true level will be higher once the engine is up to temperature.

Did you fill the oil filter before installing? If not, the oil level may come down a bit after running the engine for a few minutes.

If I were you, I'd just pull the plug for a few moments, then thread it back on. Try to get it back on without making too big of a mess. Then save the preserved oil for the inevitable refill a few thousand miles down the road.

If it were me, I would use a mighty-vac pump, or one of those "siphon pumps." They come in handy for a lot of things.

From my diesel in crankcase saga on my 6.9 I can tell you if you get it to the n on "not" going up step hills the truck will burn it in the back cylinders of the engine basically running away on itself..

I free revved it in the driveway ticked off trying to figure out how I was getting "air" in the system when it wasn't that. Free revving 4500 rpms was scary when it does it on it's own with the key off. It took the beating of my stupidity like a champ and didnt damage itself, but I would not tempt fate too much. Drive it on flat ground and let some out.

Thanks guys. I will just pull the plug and let some drain out.

I kinda figured that was the answer, just thought there might be a less messy way.
