So what did you do with your truck today?

Finally wrapped my head around how a front u-joint that's not spinning could cause my intermittent grinding noise today. And, picked up what is supposed to be a NAPA boxed carter lift pump. I'd had the hub apart, replaced wheel bearings races and seal, inspected and packec the spindle bearing...

    Starting procedure

My fast idle solenoid keeps it at about 1000 rpm, but like big bart said it won't idle up on it's own. I don't know if its my spring arrangement but it will hold once you put it there. And cold start advance solenoid makes it nice and 'clatter-y'. Both these require the temp sensor, wiring, and...

Bad sound on a fresh rebuild (video)

Ofcourse that mark is just for getting in the initial ball park. May be injection timing is late. Either because of static being out or just not advanced enough. The mild mannered sound and snap to idle make me think late injection. Don't let me muddle your thinking, but something similar...

Bad sound on a fresh rebuild (video)

How are the case/pump reference marks relating where you've blind timed it? yeah, the pump gear just floats there unattached. So inverting could take it out. Some do manage to confirm/reposition gear aligmnet with case in place btw

Bad sound on a fresh rebuild (video)

So it's not just a lag at 2k you can push past? It will stall and not recover? I didn't see mention in your engine build thread of the pump you got.

    Lets play guess that sound!

Thanks for letting us join you in on your idi and oilburner.net learning. I hope it doesn't sound unhelpful that you could familiarize with the forum and do us the courtesy of saying "advance the video to the ___ minute mark", since we just read what was your point. Also meaning to be of help...

94 7.3idi accelerating on its own

A few things could cause the starvation "surge". If full tank corrects it (if you can afford it) that's an important clue. "stepping down" tells me recovery is somehow incremental and that pump might be sticky inside, perhaps.

Name the cause of this smokeshow - 6.9IDI+T

How did you set your timing after replacing pump and injectors? I can't help but wonder if it needs to be advanced more then a dime's width.

    Bandaid on a bullet wound

Re: consumption, I've been running the oil volume nearer the low level on the dipstick. I'd learned from school bus fleet managers that doing that was lowering consumption on the T444e. So why not the 444? It seems to have had an effect on disappearing oil.

88 f250 saved from savage nature

I don't think there's any problem with having a 1.5-3 psi epump before the lift pump. Get up there much higher and the diaphram mightn't do great. I had done this without any trouble with the lift diaphram, tho the risk of polluting the oil is real. I had a good made in Canader lift pump. The...

    Our "OTHER" ford IDI

Thanks I'd appreciate that very much. In any case I'm modifying the mounts but I'd like them to be bolt out removable is all. For quick cut of losses. lol

    Our "OTHER" ford IDI

oof. I don't see how you could have gotten the two wheel drive mounts in the 4wd unmodified. The engine cross members of both the '87 4x4 and the '85 4x4 I have interfere with the motor mounting bracket from the 2wd diesel. Allthough less so on the '87. clearly there's different cross members...

    Our "OTHER" ford IDI

Some years later and back on the east coast, my mitsubishi diesel ranger build is getting started. Thinking motor mounts in here: But these are 2wd mounts: Perhaps engine comes from here or the rebuilt 55t from a ford I just acquired: I expect the same when I drop one into the reg cab '86...

Because winter's coming and (and there's no forum for other idi fords)

What Thewespaul neglects to discuss is the force transferred upon the timing piston in the retard position by plunger "bumps" acting on the cam ring during rotation. This means that rotation is crucial in the consideration of injection timing. so a scrupulous person would challenge that it is...
