6.9 in a bus needs radiator. Upgrades?

The AT545 is very reliable and very common, but it's also a great way to emasculate a motor. Yes, you are just turning fuel into heat with these things and they cost you about 5% of your speed to slippage.

6.9 in a bus needs radiator. Upgrades?

I'd run a full radiator, but I'd be scrounging for one from a junkyard and expect to pay $200-300. Those AT545 is reliable and cheap, but it also might well be the very worst transmission you can own in terms of heat production and efficiency. A new rear-end will just make it slip more and make...

Old fuel. Should you run it or pitch it.

Another vote for add fresh and run it. I own several trucks that get run just a couple times a year, so old fuel is *very* common and I've never had an issue. I do find adding fresh sometimes helps things run a little better.

Help! Minimum equipment needed? LPHV or old school?

Seems like there are a million guys on various classic and rot-rod type forums who swear by the cheap Harbor Freight HVLP guns. I will allow that they do an amazing job considering how stupidly cheap they are and I do own a couple that I use for certain utility spraying tasks and don't own me a...

    tank bleed valves

Very well, I can do that. I didn't know if they had to be DOT approved or anything special like that.

    tank bleed valves

On my air-brake trucks I notice the tank drain valves under my truck are all leaking a bit. I'm not sure where to buy them at a reasonable price and what exactly they are called?

    My next F700?

The recovery: I bought the truck about 1000 miles away, perhaps not the smartest move but if I were smart I wouldn't be doing half the things I do. The flight went well, though at security the TSA were rather perplexed by my positive-pressure hood and blower. I know I got a lot of looks and...

    My next F700?

Indeed, it will require some research but in my neck of the woods I suspect it will class the same with the axle up or down. In AZ the Motor Vehicle Department said "as long as it's your vehicle moving your stuff, drive whatever you want". In CA I'd need a "non-commercial class B" to drive it...

    My next F700?

I wound up buying another 7.8 New-Holland powered F800 rather than take a chance on the CAT. At least I have an installed base so parts interchange is an option. Thing is, for this one I want to use it as a transporter for a small but heavy tracked vehicle so the 210HP is going to be tough...

    My next F700?

Looked like the power on the 24v was better and the torque was much better. I have no direct experience but I've read a number of guys say it feels like a whole different engine. I already have an installed base of the Fords and familiarity with them, if I look at other trucks it's a whole new...

    My next F700?

I did notice the bearings in the 3208 are tiny compared to modern motors. I think I'll pass on the 5.9 12V and hold out for a 24V if I go the 5.9 route, it's not vastly more money. If I were going to do a repower swap, I'd be shopping for a DT466 (of course). :-)
