Mahle pistons for the 7.3 OEM Turbo
As the new head gaskets seem to be resolving, was wondering if anyone new a better price on the Mahle pistons. I got this quote from EPP: The piston kits with rings are available for $91.37 ea. The manufacturer show stock in 2 warehouses. Thanks! Bob Bob Everett...- rwilles

7.3 - 6.9 engines. The V-R gaskets are the same, made for both engines. The shims would be made to match, i would think. Don't know any advantage in designing separate gaskets or shims. Someone who has had both motors apart.. what do you think?- rwilles

I don't think MLS will work. It is noted in many places that the manufacturers wants no more than .002" out of square between the block and head over a 21" head and a honed surface on both block and head. It's possible we have more flex in the block than that on an 18 year old + engine and it...- rwilles

I've contacted 7 different companies. (Have a new contact in Thailand that I was forwarded. I've had problems with 3rd world production. Kinda hard to get a guy to make good on something if he lives in the shop with the hand cranked bellows and an old fashioned anvil. I'm probably biased but...- rwilles

Has anyone used an MLS type head gasket on IDI's yet?
How did folks that reduced the 21.5 to 1 of their engines to the 19-18- or even 17 to 1 range calculate the amount to take off the piston tops? Using high school Alg1, cross multiply and divide, have to have 119.4% volume increase to yield 18 to 1 from 21.5. How do we find the volume of...- rwilles

My observation of the head gasket problem is from the outside and wanting to fix my truck right. It seems that when someone combines 1) bigger than stock turbo, 2) inter-cooler 3)20lbs+ boost the head gasket is the sacrificial lamb.
