How do you check the clutch with a G56?
I just got a new (to me) '06 3500 with a G56. Someone spent a lot of money on mechanical upgrades and there is a South Bend Clutch sticker on the back window. I know the sticker is worth 10-15 HP but, with all the money I CAN see, it's possible it has a South Bend, too. All of the other manuals...- paramax55

What do Northerners do about rust?
Hmmm... it seems that Eastwood has a few products that they claim are good for rust. I wonder what the long-term results are. It's not expensive so, if it works, I wonder why the factory doesn't just use it from the get-go?- paramax55

What do Northerners do about rust?
I just got an '06 that's beautiful up top, but looks like the pits of hell underneath. This truck came from Ohio and I'm in Florida. The only way we could come close to this type of damage is to drive it into the bay on purpose and leave it there for a few months. Needless to say, nobody does...- paramax55

What type of oil/filter to use?
I finally made the transition to the dark side and I couldn't be happier. I've been driving a 7.3 for a while but I just got an '06 5.9 24v with a G56. In the 7.3 I just ran Delvac and the tractor seems happy with it as well. Is the Cummins happy with Delvac? Walmart also sells a Mopar oil...- paramax55

As I keep looking for my unicorn, I see they are selling for a lot more than what they are worth. I keep getting drawn back to my original purchase of a Ford. The Ford is a nice truck, always has way fewer miles than a Dodge, and sells for several thousand less. It looks like I would expect to...- paramax55

I don't really need super-duper power any more... i'm much older than I used to be. I have a 60 hp tune on my pow-****-stroke right now and I've been happy with it. I did test drive an '07 automatic that they wanted too much money for and it was faster than my OBS 7.3. So I don't think I'll have...- paramax55

Ford does make a beautiful truck, but a Dodge dually isn't a slouch either. But the Ford interior definitely wins. As far as the ZF goes, I have a ZF 5 behind my powerstroke and I love it. I don't haul that much but, when I do (one or two times a year), a diesel really reveales its purpose...- paramax55

I have a 3/4 ton diesel now that I have to Fix Or Repair Daily and I'm getting sick of it. There are multiple failure modes for the Rue Goldberg Powerstroke and I think I've experienced about 80% of them. Well, I think I'm on the back half of two days of fun. Apparently some good-ol boy had been in there before. Three of the pedestal bolts were loose - like finger tight. The big O-ring was like plastic and the little one was like brand new. I hate to do it, but I'm going to put it back together...- paramax55

7.3 slight miss, knock, but compression and injectors seem OK... What could it be?
Along those same lines... I didn't mention it because you said it was running rough and you are sure it's coming from under the valve cover... I had a rod knock - I was sure of it. So sure, in fact, that I pulled the pan and replaced the rod bearings (yes, you can get the pan off with the cab...- paramax55

I wired the exhaust valve open a ling time ago, but I have considered dealing with the actuator. I'll have to see what I'm dealing with once it's in my hand, but is it as easy as pulling the actuator components and then weld up the hole that the rod came out of?- paramax55

He already posted that he tried unplugging injectors. He even pulled them and swapped them. He's also done a contribution test.- paramax55
