3. The wrecker driver that towed it to my house managed to destroy the driveshaft trying to nudge it farther up the driveway, anybody know which driveshafts interchange? It's an 'E342' with 138" WB.
It might be easier to pull the old shaft and take it to a driveline rebuilder. Just Google...

I agree that the ether probably didn’t bend the rod. Ether might have helped weaken an already stressed block; but at less than 200,000 miles; it should still be short...
The Spearco cooler is a good one; but probably better for an upgrade on a Turbo Buick or Mustang.
Finding a used (even if newer) Powerstroke intercooler and pipes would be a lot easier.
Yes, harmonic damper. There is one about 1.5” x 1.5” x 1” on one of (and only one of) the lower rear suspension arms on my wife’s Jeep. Had to look it up. New replacement cost was over $250 at the time. Probably to pay for the engineering team that decided you only needed one.
After it's getting warm; but not quite running; there is a little smoke while cranking. I haven't noticed it when I first start on a cold engine. I'll work on getting air out too.
Glow plugs is on my list. I'll work on the other stuff too.

Replacement for my 1973 400SBC Blazer is a 1989 GMC 6.2 Jimmy.
Started easily and ran fine in Texas (rarely got below 70 degrees); but sat for about 5 years; and now has a hard time starting and running in Colorado (rarely gets above 70 degrees – don’t even try unless it’s above 65)...
