It holds first and second only but when I shift into drive it will only actually go into third if I accelerate really hard and then let off of the throttle, but a soon as I hit the throttle again it shifts right back down into second. Since it's been doing this I've never gotten it into over drive.
I have the ELM327 with Forscan. It read the code that told me that the batteries had been disconnected the P0603. Other than that it it hasn’t shown anything.

It doesn’t show me anything as far as codes. It even had a check engine light the other day because I unplugged the map sensor, but it didn’t record any codes. That seems weird to me but I have very little experience with these trucks so maybe it’s normal.

I bought the truck knowing that I would have to rebuild the transmission. The original had grenaded the planetaries. After I got the transmission fixed it worked fine until it didn’t. Someone else told me that maybe it’s a shifting solenoid that didn’t get replaced during the rebuild, but I...
I checked the tps and the map and they both seem like they’re okay. I did pull the map sensor connector while the key was in the on position with the engine off and it threw a cel, so I turned it off and hooked up the forscan and turned the key back to the on position and the cel disappeared and...
I'm using the ELM327 OBD2 Scanner USB Scan Tool FORScan OBD2 Adapter with FORScan. It only came up with P0603, which I was told by a mechanic is there because I changed out the batteries.
I took the cat off and it still looks good I guess. I can still see all the way through it like a heavy screen door. I ran out of time to test the sensors. I’ll have to do it tomorrow.

Thank you. I will try this when I get home tonight. One other question is about the cat, it looks like it's the original. Would that all of the sudden clog up and cause the truck to go into limp mode?
I cleaned the sensor last weekend. What should I look for as far as readings for the map and tps? I’m a new owner as far as powerstrokes are concerned, I have no experience working on them.

It's a 1996 F450 or F-Superduty, 4x4, and it has the E4OD transmission. It has about 87,000 miles on it and it looks like it's spent most of those at slow speed because it has 27,000 hours on it.
