Rebuilt 89 7.3 will not idle or go over 2100 rpm

Here's where the truck stands this morning. Last night I filled to filter with B12 and Lucas injector cleaner ran it for a few seconds until the truck started running different like it had drawn some of the cleaner into it. This morning the truck did not start easy, I guess the combo of a gummed...

Rebuilt 89 7.3 will not idle or go over 2100 rpm

After messing with the truck most of the day we've come to the conclusion that the IP pump is and was very gummed up. After taking the FSS cover off multiple times and jiggling the metering valve and governor spring we continued to get better throttle response and higher RPM out of the engine. I...

Rebuilt 89 7.3 will not idle or go over 2100 rpm

So here's what has happened since last night. I adjusted the idle screw and now the truck idles just fine. The idle screw was turned all the way out. I probably unscrewed it all the when moving the bracket around or something. Now it does idle fine, although occasionally there are weird...

Rebuilt 89 7.3 will not idle or go over 2100 rpm

Considering the engine has been rebuilt the whole assembly has been off. I have it all lined up though on the timing marks. Also the IP pump sat for a year and a half with diesel in it which is why I am thinking it may have some gummed up internals. I already have ATF in it and that made a...

Rebuilt 89 7.3 will not idle or go over 2100 rpm

I wish it was that, the truck will not start unless the you move the throttle on the pump forward. So, if you unhook the throttle cable the engine will not start. Unless someone else is outside and moves the throttle linkage on the IP pump. The truck is a 1989 F-250 7.3 IDI, with a ZF5 manual...

Rebuilt 89 7.3 will not idle or go over 2100 rpm

Let's me catch y'all up to speed on this project truck that has been years in the making. Roughly 3 years ago I pulled the engine because she was basically running on oil. over the course of the next 2 years I got the block and heads rebuilt. I had the machinist put 910 comp springs in the heads...

    Fuel Injection Pump Wiring Issues?

Fuel filter is full, lines aren't kinked and only the back two injectors got fuel. As I mentioned the hot lead that goes to the glow plug relay goes cold when the key is placed in the start position. This lead runs back to the IP and is what control the shutoff solenoid. From what I understand...

    Fuel Injection Pump Wiring Issues?

Hello all, I should have posted last night but I was hoping to figure the issue out without asking. Just dropped my rebuilt engine in the truck and I have been working like crazy to get everything finished on it because school starts in a few days and I don't have a truck. Anyways the just of...

    Fuel Injection Pressure Sensor

@Thewespaul That would be amazing man I checked for IDI's in the junkyards around me (van and truck) there just aren't very many of them in the junkyard. So I can't find a number one line for a van or that little piece out of a junkyard. My mom is actually in San Antonio currently so I could...

    Fuel Injection Pressure Sensor

Hello all, I am currently finishing up the rebuild on my 7.3 IDI while I was putting the injector lines on I realized that I've misplaced the fuel injection sensor. It also is called a pulse timing adapter. I've looked up the prices on them and they are pricy to say the least. In the likely...

    Rebuild on 7.3 idi

Yeah I wouldn't replace them but they are somewhat worn and rusted I wouldn't use them again so I'm getting headstuds. The budget on this rebuild is about 3k

    Rebuild on 7.3 idi

Hello, so I'm new to posting in the forums here but I have used them many times to fix my truck and I'm looking to rebuild my 7.3. The reason I'm rebuilding it is because I was running through a ton of oil about a gallon every 100 miles, I know it was leaking out of some of the seals but the...
