In the race cars I've been involved with, we've used coarse-mesh metal wool instead of a filter. This lets the oil fog condense onto something that doesn't need periodic replacement.
Can I get you to redo my engine compartment ?? (just kidding, except not really!)
Best,
- Jeff
Really sorry for your loss. Hope you can find a worthy replacement, or at least just enjoy fond memories.
I could really use the trans harness, knowing the other Jeff above didn't ask for that portion!
It'd just have to be easier to adapt that to my '91 speed sensor/controller than what I'm...
Sitting in the truck, you will definitely need to sawzall the firewall to remove a turbo.
Much easier if you get out and open the hood...
;)
The Banks on my 86 wasn't awful (according to the guy that did it LOL), but the plastic stuff is pretty brittle.
Best of luck,
- Jeff
(couldn't help it)...
I wish I had tried changing just the lower seal. There is a lot of variability in rebuilt steering gear. The box that came out drove beautifully, but it leaked. The replacement does not drive nearly as nicely.
Good luck,
- Jeff
For period reference, my 86 f350 8' drw 4-door weighed 6700 with:
- spare tire and I think one full fuel tank, random tools & spare fluids
- aluminum wheels (4)
- a stout camper top
- a stout drop bumper
GVW is 9200.
It took a while but from some hole patterns and airbags I believe it was set...
I tried the typ4 kit but found the hose, while beautiful, can't take proximity to a Banks turbo. Luckily I was in there for a coolant leak before there was big trouble.
YMMV,
- Jeff
That's what I keep thinking... On a cold engine I just don't see a stress riser to worry about. I believe I will come to a point where I need to try it or go PSD, and I really don't want to go PSD if I can help it ;).
I dunno, my ideas get pretty far fetched sometimes but this just doesn't...
For Josh, I'd guess since you have to take the manifold off to do head gaskets, you may find evidence enough of your leak to stop at that step...
For my crazy one-stud-at-a-time idea, it's the only way studs would/could happen here, and I don't appear to have any head-gasket problems (yet!)...
I had an odd coolant leak once, although our manifolds are dry the heads have passages for use in some application with a wet manifold. It may be possible your leak is actually at the intake but runs to the back of the engine.
That said, I've thought more than once about changing to studs on...
When my parts start telling me how good my ideas are, I know I've had one too many beers ;) ...
That said, I wouldn't think a Panhard would have enough useful range for a lot of articulation.
Cheers,
- Jeff
At our town dump the truck in my sig weighed in at 6750 (still has the C6) with middling fuel load and usual traveling crap. Besides the fancy seat it has 4 aluminum wheels and a Century full-window cap, A/C and an aftermarket stereo. I've been thinking like a racer on how to shed enough...
Interesting - not what I've been told but really good to know. Gives me some thinking to do. Shortly before retiring my Bronco I put in a fresh 36 gallon gas tank. That would sure help my range problem, but would kick the spare to the trailer. It's pulling the trailer that I bought this to...
Gas tanks are usually galvanized and diesel fuel will eat that.
Anyone know if any of the larger tanks can fit the rear location and still allow a dually spare? I've got to pull mine (leaks at top) and could really use more capacity - I see 25 and ~32 gallon plastic ones but again I need to...
