7-800 isn’t bad especially if your probe is in exhaust manifold. You can maintain 1100 without issue.

Yeah in the driver side rear of the manifold. But if you barley gave it anymore throttle it would sky rocket then if you down shift and give it more throttle at 2300 RPM thr egts would sky rocket but it didn't feel like it had any power just struggled.

Try to keep around 2500 or higher when accelerating, when towing with an e40d I usually manually shift. Pull it out of overdrive to keep the rpms up by hitting the od button, and pull it down to 2nd if need be. These engines handle rpms well

285/75/16, pulling a 37 foot 1972 Avion triple axle camper. Haven’t pulled that particular trailer with the new engine yet but even with the na engine I could easily maintain 75 mph on flats and 55 up long hills, as I mentioned in his previous thread.
Could just be me, but I would think 3" could make quite the difference.
Turbo thing was somewhat of a joke. Obviously there's something else going on here.

I agree, sounds like something else is up. MY 7.3 idi with an ats 088, pulled a 10k boat through hills no problem. What injection pump did you go with?

R&D that's suppose to be the stock one. I have an auto parts store one sitting on the shelf for a back up that's never been installed.

Unless you lost speed like you got stuck behind a semi, getting pulled down to 1st gear on even steep grades seems like something isn't right. Don't be afraid to give it some RPM's, these things should be able to sit on the governor all day

28 footer shouldn't be over 8K, and unless you are 5K+ it sure seems like somethings wrong. I've been able to pull any grade (6% for miles) I encountered at 65+mph towing 6k + 1k cargo in direct with my truck. Apples to oranges load and rig setup I know, but putting a turbo on your truck should really help it out.

That's why I asked what all you did. You got the pump from R&D, I assume the injectors as well? I'm just asking to make sure you didn't put crap parts on it and that's your problem. I've seen that, some kid puts 8 parts store injectors on his truck that all pop at different pressures and tosses a super cheap pump on without looking at the timing and wonders why it runs like crap.

R&D stuff should be decent, I'm not implying otherwise.

I'd wager you'd notice a big difference if you could get it timed. I don't have the tools myself and I'm too far away anyways. I'd definitely ask around locally and see if anyone around you knows who would have the correct timing equipment. It's possible nobody will know but you might get lucky.

That's what I don't is why I had to go all the way down to 1st on a grade. I thought it should pull better then it did.

Yep injectors are the stock ones for it from r&d. Do you think it could be the timing gear are off on it?

I'm sure its possible. Did you pull the whole housing off to change the pump or just the ip? If you pulled the whole housing off its definitely possible you got it off by a tooth. I've heard guys say these will run with the IP 180 degrees out of time, not good mind you, but if it'll run THAT far out then a tooth off wouldn't be too hard to run.

I'm with Wes on this, if you've tried turning it to the passenger side and get more smoke, try turning it towards the drivers side. If you're way advanced you'll definitely be making more heat because of it.
